Why did you want to join Her Campus York U?

I was a part of the Her Campus chapter at Wilfrid Laurier University as a writer and I had such an incredible experience that I didn’t want it to end once I graduated. When I found out there was an opportunity to restart the chapter at York U I was encouraged by some of my amazing friends to take on this challenge and I am so happy I did. Taking on the position as Campus Correspondent comes with a lot of responsibility but I love being in a leader role and being my own boss essentially. The team we have so far is incredible to work with and makes my job that much better. S/O to my partner in crime Sam Goodyear, I probably would’ve had about 5 mental breakdowns if it weren’t for her.

What is your goal for Her Campus this year?

Her Campus is about empowering others and creating an inclusive, supportive community. My goal is to continue to help this club grow and to inspire young women to discover their passion for writing, managing, marketing, photography/videography, and social media. Whatever your passion is or your idea, if Her Campus is a platform you can use we want to help you. Just because our club name is “Her Campus” doesn’t mean we are gender specific. The club is open to anyone and everyone as long as they are a York student or Alumni.

What is your favourite thing about York U?

Although I haven’t been here long my favourite thing about York U are the people. Some of the very first people I met were through working in the Athletics Department for Game Day Operations. This group of amazing individuals were so welcoming and definitely set the tone. My experience so far here at York has been nothing but the best and I can’t wait to continue this journey over the next two years.

After a long and busy week, what is your go-to activity for winding down?

Does watching sports and drinking wine count? I love going to hockey and football games with friends, it makes for a great night out. I’m a huge Habs fan so I have a ton of rivalries with friends going right now too; mostly bets to get me into a Leafs jersey which is NEVER going to happen.

What is the number one thing on your bucket list?

My current #1 item is just to travel more once I actually have the money for it. I have so many trips I want to take from road tripping to the east coast with my best friends to travelling around South East Asia. One day I’ll win the lottery and be able to do that.

If you could meet anyone in the world dead or alive who would it be?

I would love to meet Brodie Lawson. She’s a huge figure in the sports community as a CFL Host. I’m currently writing and working on a online sports blog called The Stath Blog that targets student-athletes at the OUA/CIS level and the work Brodie has done really inspires me to continue pursuing my passion for sharing the stories of student-athletes. Brodie Lawson is definitely someone I look up to and I would love to sit down with her over a glass of wine and talk to her about all of her successes and how she got to where she is now.

What is one food you can’t stand?

I’m not a picky eater but…PINEAPPLE. I completely despise it. Pineapple pizza should seriously be illegal. Even talking about it is making me cringe.

We are so grateful for Alex and all the work she does at Her Campus, and we don’t know what we’d do without her!
