Fun Activities to Add to Your Summer Bucket List

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at York U chapter.

For the past two years, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our summers have been quite lonely and even boring at times. With summer quickly approaching, it’s time to take advantage of the good weather and the decreasing restrictions on what we’re allowed to do and who we’re allowed to see.

It’s time to pull out your calendar and dust it off, because this is your opportunity to fill up your time once again! This article will hopefully give you some inspiration for this year’s summer bucket list and to start making memories again with the people you love — and missed — the most.

A Trip to the Drive-In

Why go to the regular movie theaters when you can add a spin to it? Take advantage of the good weather during the summer and take your friends to the drive-in to binge some movies in the comfort of your own car! Whether you’re using the seats or the trunk, grab some pillows and blankets from home to turn your vehicle into the perfect comfy spot to watch a film.

And don’t worry about being shushed by strangers if you and your friends’ whispers are too loud for their liking — within your own car, you can talk as much (and as loud) as you want. If you don’t mind spraying on some bug repellant, another great idea is using the trunk of a truck as a great makeshift bed to get comfortable in.

Roller Skating

Whether you’re an experienced roller skater or it’s your first time, you won’t regret putting skates on. Vintage roller skating rinks give the perfect vintage feel, which makes for a fun visit any day! Alternatively, to take advantage of a sunny day outside, you can take a visit to a roller skate rental place and breathe in the fresh air on an outdoor rink.

SUSO Skate in Toronto is one of many companies that offer this great experience. They’re opening back up just in time for spring and summer!

Wine Tasting

Treat yourselves to some fancy fun this summer! This is a great opportunity for you and your friends to expand your taste bud horizons both in wine and in the sides that accompany them. This could be a perfect excuse to pull out a nice outfit you were saving for a classy occasion.

Summer visits come with special benefits, such as touring their vineyards outdoors and having a great view of the vineyards during your tasting.

Fun Photoshoots

Photoshoots capture some of our favorite memories — and our favorite people. Get dolled up and pose for the camera with your friends to create everlasting images to look back on and smile at. Monography in Toronto is a self-portrait studio that provides you with the perfect private space to take professional pictures.

At your own pace, feel comfortable to take the time to pose perfectly or take fun candid photos with your best friends!

Sunflower Fields

There’s a reason why sunflower fields were such a big trend last summer. Whether flowers are your thing or not, no one can deny the beauty of sunflower fields. To get some much-needed vitamin D, take a visit to the nearest sunflower fields and take a stroll down their trails between the flowers.

Some places offer additional services, such as cutting your own sunflower as a souvenir to bring home, or private photo shoots within the field.

When it comes to creating your bucket list for this summer, the options are endless and equally exciting. These ideas are to help you start your soon-to-be-long list of to-dos — whether it’s with family, friends, or by yourself. The important thing is that you spend your summer the way you want — with who you want. No matter what activities fill your time this summer, they’re guaranteed to make memories.
