Five Ways to Live Your Life Like a T.V Show Character

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at York U chapter.

Generally, real-life might not match up to the exciting plot lines of TV shows. Not your every living moment will be dramatic or totally incredible and that’s okay. Plus, figuring out how you want to live your life and who you want to be takes time and experience. So, if you feel lost or bored, then why not try to pretend like your life is a show? It’s a brand-new school year so try something new! Following the five steps below will give you a chance to spice things up and step out of your comfort zone.

Leave Your Room

This step is very important because if you don’t close your computer and leave your room then you’ll never fully experience life. Put on your favourite outfit, grab your keys and get ready for a good time.

Choose Which Character You Want to Be

You don’t have to be the main character of your own life. You can choose to be the funny best friend, the dreamy love interest, the artsy kid, the serious student council member or even the mean girl. Once you’ve figured out which character you want to be, decide which main personality traits you’re going to adapt. Now that you’ve got those down you’re ready to live like a true TV character.

Figure Out Your Motive

What are you looking to get out of this experience? Is it new friends, a shopping spree, a love interest or simply something exciting? It can be something as easy as wanting new clothing or you could go confront an ex-friend. Find your motive and let it lead you to the location you want to immerse yourself in.

Find Key Locations

Location is almost everything. Figuring out which location goes best with what character you are will determine how your story will unfold. Want to live like Blair and Serena from Gossip Girl? Head over to Yorkville for fancy restaurants and top fashion stores. If Riverdale is your current go-to show then check out the Bean and Bakers Malt shop for that retro diner vibe and delicious milkshakes. Take a walk on Sugar Beach to feel like one of the sun-kissed characters from The O.C. There are tons of places in Toronto that could mimic the location of your favourite fictional spot!

Have a Story to Tell

Everyone knows that a proper day or night out isn’t complete without having a story to tell. It doesn’t have to be the most dramatic tale of all times. It could be just a simple story about how your day went. However, from my experience, when you set it in your mind that you want a story then you’ll get one. Letting those crazy-weird (or boring!) events happen will act as the plot line to your show. My advice would be to not shy away from potentially interesting events. You just never know when your next go-to anecdote will take place, so keep an eye out.

By following these steps you never know where life will take you or what crazy and fun opportunities you’ll find yourself stumbling into next.
