It’s the middle of the semester, and maybe things have gotten a little boring in your eating routing. Sometimes you just want to get a little creative in the caf! Here are a few “caf hacks” recipes to help spark some change into your eating routine.

  • Ice Cream Sandwich

Level: Intermediate

Just take two of the caf’s delicious cookies and put ice cream between them. It may take a bit of messy manuvering, but now you’ve got a great dessert!

  • PB&J

Level: Beginner

You can find the peanut butter and jelly by the butter and cream cheese, and the bread is by the bagels. Make yourself a lunch that will take you back to the days your mom packed you a lunch to take to school with you!

  • Root Beer Float

Level: Beginner

Take a cup by the soft-serve ice cream station, and put some vanilla ice cream in it. Then take it by the soda, and fill it up with root beer the rest of the way. Be careful not to overfill this sweet treat.

  • Soy Sauce

Level: Beginner

Plain rice in the main line? Veggies with not much seasoning on them? Just want to add an extra something to your dinner? Add some soy sauce! Many people don’t know this, but under the table with the ketchup and mustard on it, there is a shelf with soy sauce, steak sauce, and some other condiments to switch up your normal routine.

  • Waffle Muffin

Level: Expert

This one was coined by one of HCXU’s own: a Katie Kennedy masterpiece. Get a to-go cup, fill it with waffle batter, and bring it back to your dorm. Put it in the microwave for two minutes or so, and you have your very own waffle muffin!

  • Chicken Sandwich

Level: Expert

Cut up some of the chicken from the burger line, and bring it over to the sandwich line. Then you can ask them to put it in any sandwich you’d like! One that we think is really good is chicken, provolone, lettuce, bacon, and ranch on pita bread.

  • Chicken Wrap

Level: Intermediate

This meal is along the same lines as the last one. Again, take some chicken from the burger line, and the master wrap makers will cut it up for you and make you a delicious wrap!

  • Chicken & Waffles

Level: Beginner

Make yourself a waffle, grab some chicken from the burger line, pour yourself a cup of syrup, and voila! You’ve got yourself a yummy southern delicacy that you can enjoy for breakfast or dinner.

  • Milk & Cookies

Level: Beginner

Although this seems like such a simple and obvious thing to do, it is often overlooked in the caf! Next time you reach for one of the caf’s delicious cookies, grab yourself a glass of milk to go with it! Extra delicious if the cookies are fresh out of the oven.

  • Chicken Pita

Level: Expert

You can find the pita bread by the bagels, the hummus in the salad bar, and grilled chicken in the burger line. Slice the chicken, and place it on top of a piece of pita bread with hummus as the glue in the middle of the two. Relish in this new creation and enjoy.

Everyone has their own hacks in the caf to switch up their basic meals. Get creative, experiment with new foods, and find your new favorites. Got some good hacks of your own? Send us your recipe in a tweet to @HerCampusXavier.
