“On Wednesdays, We Wear Pink.”

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WVWC chapter.

This week’s Throwback Flick of the Week is encourage you to wear pink on Wednesday. I mean, according to today’s flick of choice, you should technically be wearing pink every Wednesday—but specifically this month.

If you haven’t guessed it already, this week’s throwback is none other than the cult classic Mean Girls. Why? Because 1) it’s iconic, and 2) it’s bound to get you in the spirit of wearing pink in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Everyone quotes Mean Girls so much that it’s hard to tell which lines are actually from the movie and which sayings have become so natural to us that they’ve become part of our everyday vocabulary. From, “That’s so fetch,” to, “You can’t sit with us,” everyone knows this famous movie.

But this month, let’s focus on actually listening to it. Wear pink and celebrate women everywhere (collegiettes included)! Celebrate women who have survived breast cancer and those who are battling it currently. Honor those who have lost their lives fighting the disease by spreading awareness and showing your support. Listen to Cady at the end of the film when she says, “Calling somebody else fat won’t make you any skinnier. Calling someone stupid doesn’t make you any smarter. And ruining Regina George’s life definitely didn’t make me any happier. All you can do in life is try to solve the problem in front of you.”

Let’s help lift up our fellow women and not tear them down! I encourage you to wear pink this Wednesday and every Wednesday after that to help celebrate the women in your life and women everywhere.

Let’s celebrate one another, share that Spring Fling Queen crown, and love our friends as much as Damien loves Christina Aguilera and the work of Danny DeVito.
