Return of a Powerhouse: Adele

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WVWC chapter.

When I first heard “Someone Like You,” I remember crying for an hour. I heard a voice that I thought sounded like an angel, and I was so moved by the words she was singing that I cried, and cried and cried. This week after a three year hiatus, this angel is back with a new album set to come out next month.

Adele is back with her new album, 25, set to release November 20—and the world is freaking out. The song “Hello” was released on October 22 and was viewed over 27.7 million times on YouTube within the first 24 hours of release, breaking the Vevo record for the most number of views in a day. It even surpassed the 20.1 million views for “Bad Blood” by another strong female, Taylor Swift. On average, the video was getting one million views per hour during the first two days, but at one point it peaked at 1.6 million in a single hour.

This young powerhouse, only 27, won 10 Grammy awards and an Oscar for her music, as well as many other awards. When asked about the new album, she responded by saying, “Sorry it took so long.” For the last three years Adele has been raising a son and enjoying her private life. This new song has her right back in the spotlight because everyone loves this tune. I would recommend everyone go to YouTube ASAP and listen to this song. I can guarantee you’ll start to feel all the emotions.

Be on the lookout for Adele’s new album because, trust me, you’re going to want it. This album will not be like 21, which made us all weep; this album will help build up strength again because it’s said to be an album of “forgiveness.”
