Going Greek with Style

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WVWC chapter.

With fall recruitment just around the corner, you can’t go a day without seeing a classmate donning the Greek alphabet. So, if you are already a member of Greek life or if you are considering joining, keep in mind these simple and fun ways to go Greek with style!

1. Make it Yourself

The best way to personalize your letters is to make them! Grab a sister or two and go shopping for different, unique fabric and hit the sale bins for plain T-shirts that would make great canvases. Pose the idea to your fellow sisters at chapter and plan a sewing night. In this way, you are bonding and creating the cutest letters on campus.

2. Have Fun with Fabric

While sticking with your sorority’s colors is always good, don’t be afraid to experiment with different colors, patterns and materials for your fabric. Express your own personality through a funny fabric of cats or superheroes. (You’d be surprised what crazy things you can find on material these days!) If you fancy a little shine, go for a glitter fabric. Don’t forget to share the excess fabric with your sisters, so you can all sparkle!

3. Be Aware of Size

Like all clothing, be sure you are wearing the correct size. Because T-shirts and jerseys don’t have much structure, it can be hard to find a perfect fit. Just keep a few things in mind

  • The thinner the material, the smaller the sizes tend to run
  • Jerseys normally run on the larger size
  • The bigger the size, the longer the length of the jersey

If you feel unsure of your size, ask a sister with a similar body type if you can try on her jersey to compare.

4. Don’t forget the accessories!

Your love for your Greek family does not have to be confined to a t-shirt! There are many other ways to show off your beautiful letters! So consider scarves, bows, lanyards, jewelry or even handbags as great Greek accessories. Not to mention they make great gifts for your sisters!

5. Wear your letters with pride!

So, display your unique and fabulous letters with pride and have a great fall recruitment!

Stay classy, ladies!

I am adopted from Russia and was raised in West Virginia. I am a double major in English (Writing Concentration) and Musical Theatre. I love art in many different forms be it writing, singing, acting, drawing/painting, or design. I adore fashion and it has helped me become the person that I want to be in life. I am a very open person and love talking to people, so feel free to ask me anything! I am honored to be a part of the Her Campus team and I hope that my writing will bring you a smile. If I'm not in the theater or typing up my version of the great American fashion column, you can always hear me coming from the click of my heels. My advice to all: Stay classy!
