There is no better place to spend your college years than at the beloved UW-Madison. There seems to be always something going on from: attending a fall football game, to joining various extracurricular activities, to finally keeping up with the obnoxious amount of reading and studying each class demands.
The Madison campus is by no means a slow-paced, non-eventful area. The busyness seems to never subside as we may hope…so here it is: how to find peace of mind in this crazy campus!
One way to find peace of mind is to exercise. After a day of shear frenzy, take an hour out of your night to go on a run or head to the SERF. Exercising relieves quite a bit of stress and it will allow you to brush aside all of the busyness from your day!
Also, finding a quiet place to sit and just think can really help you find peace of mind. I know it is very difficult to find silent areas on campus, but sit on a bench along the Lakeshore Path or on Bascom Hill. Taking 5 or even 10 minutes out of your day to do this will most definitely bring you some peace!
Joining a Yoga class can also relieve stress you have, and help you become at ease. I used to do Yoga in high school a lot, and I swear it kept me sane. The positions range in difficulty, so don’t be nervous if you have never done it before. Join a beginner’s class and get ready to enjoy a relaxing hour of your day…your flexibility will even get better too! **You can join Yoga classes at the SERF or at the Kaivalya studio on University Avenue!**
Another way to find peace of mind is to get your own room when living off campus! It may sound fun at the time about sharing a room with your best friend, but trust me, get your own room. I have my own room in my friend’s and I apartment and I couldn’t be happier. Nothings better than having a stressful, chaotic day and having the luxury of going to a room all to myself!
You could also go splurge and get a facial/body massage! Literally, nothing feels better than getting a back massage; it feels amazzzzzing! It allows you to have a time to just think and escape the chaotic world. Go for the splurge and GET A MASSAGE!
So there you have it! These are several strategies to find peace of mind in this crazy campus that I believe anyone can benefit from. There’s nothing worse than not being able to relieve stress or find an escape to this chaotic world, so take a few minutes (or hours) each day to find your peace. You’ll feel a lot better, trust me!
