8 Steps to Galentine’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wisconsin chapter.

It’s February 13th, basically the best and most romantic day of the year: Galentine’s Day.

You haven’t heard of Galentine’s Day? Thanks to the lovely Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler), ladies now have a day that’s all about celebrating their friendships and how awesome we are.

And who’s saying this day of celebrating should stop when the clock strikes Valentine’s Day?

Here’s how to make the best of Galentine’s:

1. To start, don’t believe this BS….it will only lead to a complicated mess.

2. Forget the boys and pull together the fiercest group of women

3. It’s only 11 AM? It’s 5 O’clock somewhere! Get the shots pouring and the music blaring

4. Then strut into class and act natural

5. Class is over and it’s time to regroup. Galentine’s is about one thing……wait, make that three things: friends, wine, and chocolate

6. Then someone in the group remembers it’s Valentine’s Day tomorrow…

7. You just be the voice of reason and pull a Charlotte

8. And then everyone must share what they love about each other and why being girlfriends is amazing….who needs boys anyways?

There’s nothing wrong with your besties being the loves of your life.

Galentine’s Day is about cherishing your friendships and owning your womanhood. Sorry fella’s, but this day is for us.

So embrace that inner Spice Girls girl power

And when you start to wish you had a valentine, remember that most people will wake up Saturday morning like this

Which will lead to more awkwardness like this

Because you most definitely did not have a Friday night like this

Because NO ONE did. You are not on Pretty Little Liars and in no way is any aspect of that show realistic. I mean they wear platform heels to high school.

So stop complaining about how you don’t have a Valentine …because you do. Your girlfriends are who will be there through thick and thin and love you no matter what. And to me that sounds way better than any guy I’m going to meet at Hatters.

Happy Galentine’s Day
