8 Reasons Jessica Day is Ultimate Girl Goals

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wisconsin chapter.

Have you ever spilled your entire cup of coffee dancing just a little too hard on the drive to work? Or may you have been pretty obvious during one of your “wow that boy is really cute” drooling sessions? Well, Jessica Day on New Girl has done all of those things — and many more. Clearly, she is one of the more relatable characters on television. We are currently amid the seventh and final season of Fox’s hit show, and each episode gives us yet another reason every girl should want to be like Jess in real life:

1. She doesn’t need a guy to complete her.

Even being surrounded by all her coupled friends doesn’t get Jess down. It truly takes some serious dedication to start a group that only welcomes single people not looking for a relationship.

2. She is the queen of spontaneity.

Planning to take a spur-of-the-moment trip to Mexico? Jess will meet you there, no questions asked. She will even impulsively steal bracelets to get you into a luxury resort that is otherwise out of your price range.

3. She advocates for what she believes in.

Jess knows her value as a woman in the workplace — and really, in life. She won’t let her talents to go to waste in any task people give to her. Plus, she isn’t afraid to speak up about how awesome and powerful women are.

4. She says it like it is.

Sugarcoating is not one of Jess’s strengths. If you ask her a question, you should expect a straight answer. It may seem brutal, but it comes in handy when you need to make a decision on a time crunch.

5. She is her best friend’s biggest fan.

Cece is one lucky girl to have a best friend that rides with her through the highs and lows of life. Jess won’t stand to let her friends not live up to their career — or romantic — potential, and she knows how to hype them up when they need it the most.

6. She’s comfortable in her own skin.

Living in a loft full of guys can come with the pressure to be perfect — but not for Jess. She often makes no bra, no make-up, messy hair appearances. Plus, she is unashamed to talk about her body or poke fun at herself.

7. She has an endless supply of optimism.

How many Thanksgivings need to go wrong for someone to start believing the worst when the holiday comes around? For Jess, the number is infinite. Plus, she is great at offering encouragement to her friends in any situation.

8. She is the embodiment of joy and energy.

Jess always seems to find the beauty in everything; she turns every experience into a reason to be happy. Her roommates can’t help to be infected with her contagious and carefree energy. Want to see Schmidt let loose? Just bring Jess around!

Just because Jessica Day’s adventures are ending soon, it doesn’t mean everything she stands for won’t continue to live on through us. If we wake up every morning trying to live a little more like how Jess does, we will all end up being “New Girls.”
