5 Reasons a Phone Call to Mom is Always Worth the Time

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wisconsin chapter.

She has always been your hero, but there have been moments when it felt like she was your mortal enemy. You probably picked up all of your worst habits from her; but then again, you’ve probably been blessed with all the wonderful things that make her who she is. She picks you up when you’re down and always brings you back to Earth when needed. She’s your mom and there’s no one quite like her.

I like to think I’ve been blessed with the best mom of them all; but I have a feeling everyone reading this article feels the same way. Moms are great and can be exactly the voice of reason we need to hear in this stressful phase of life called “adulting.”  Why is it that a phone call from mom always seems to be the exact medicine you need to fix any problem?

Here’s why a phone call to your mom is always worth your time, no matter how busy you are.

1. It’s a fact that moms know everything.

Seriously, though! Do you need to get a stain out of your favorite top? Are you questioning if you can still eat that chicken in the fridge? Wondering if your lipstick is the right color for your outfit? Mom will know. (Seriously, I send my mom more mirror selfies for opinions on outfits than anyone else.)

2. She has probably experienced something similar.

College has always been stressful, college-aged boys have always been heartbreakers and Mondays have always been the worst. Sometimes all you need is to hear that you’re not the only one who has felt this way. You’re never alone when you’ve got your mom on your side.

3. She’s always going to be on your team.

Sometimes you just need someone to listen to you rant about the professor who “totally sucks,” or the argument you got in with your friends earlier. My point is, you need someone who will listen and tell you when you’re wrong — my mom is always playing Devil’s advocate. It always infuriates me in the moment; but in the end, it cools me down. She always ends up being right — don’t tell her that, though. At the end of the day, your mom will always be your number one cheerleader.

4. She’s the only person who can get real with you.

There are very few people who can be honest with you when you start to act bananas.  Thank goodness we can count on moms to keep us in check.

5. She knows you better than you know yourself.

This is the woman who has raised you to be the amazing woman you are today. Never forget that.

Thank God for cellphones, and thank God for moms!
