Writing this article in itself has been a struggle, because I am out of ideas. How, you may ask? It comes from burnout and slowly losing the motivation to complete my assignments. My creativity has hit a brick wall and everything seems mundane and not as bright as it was before. So, how does one combat this? Let me tell you what I am doing to help mine.

Stop Putting So Much Pressure On Yourself

When you’re in a creative industry and constantly coming up with new ideas, it gets really hard to create something new that no one has ever seen before. The fact is, ideas will always be copies of each other. There will be something similar and something of the same variety out there. So, when you’re out of ideas, let that be okay. Know it is not the end of the world and that everything will be okay. Taking that pressure off yourself allows your body to relax and in turn your mind. Next thing you may know is right before you’re going to bed, you get hit with your next idea.

Put On Your Favorite Music

Letting yourself relax and be able to enjoy the little things in life can really help. One of my favorite things to do is to listen to my favorite music and enjoy any and every time of music. I put on all my favorites, the ones that remind me of friends, family, and happy times. This helps me to just have a good time and relive those memories. Creativity comes in times when we least expect it and the amount of times a song has triggered some creativity has been quite a few. Music is amazing to be able to trigger creativity and clear the walls that happen.

Read Everything

Creativity walls happen when overthinking kicks in. Taking the time to read your favorite books, what’s happening in the news, and everything in between can be the spark that you need to get past the wall. Reading poetry can also be the spark needed. The idea of reading means stories and stories can mean creativity to happen. Being inspired by your favorite characters is a great feeling and allows for these ideas to flow and to see a fantasy world built right in front of your eyes. Reading can do some much for breaking creativity lulls.

Scratch Paper Works Wonders

Taking a piece of scratch paper and just doodling the most random things is not only a great stress reliever and fun, but also can just allow you to let your imagination run wild. Sometimes creativity doesn’t leave us because it’s blocked, but more because we don’t revisit our imaginations. The most rudimentary of concepts can be the way to break your creativity lull. Writing down thoughts and feelings can also be therapeutic and allow for you to find out what is blocking your creativity. Ultimately being able to find the reason why your creativity is blocked can help expentitly.
