The Zeta Rho Chapter of Delta Gamma at Ohio University is shutting down Greek stereotypes in their new campaign called, “Defying Stereotypes.”

In the powerful Facebook album, women are posing in a black and white photo with an important quote of their choice written on the wall behind them. In today’s society, Greek women are often stereotyped for paying for friends, only care about their sorority and have everything handed to them. With these negative messages circling around, the women of the Zeta Rho chapter decided to publish a campaign talking about what being a sorority woman actually means.

According to an interview with Today.com, the chapter’s Public Relations chair Elizabeth Harris said that photography major Kaitlin Hatton came to her to give her the idea of creating a photography series. Harris loved the idea and thought it would send a strong message across the nation.

“Our chapter has so many unique individuals, who come from all different backgrounds, so this was a nice way to show that off,” Harris said.

In the description in the Facebook album, it states:

Sorority women continuously face the stereotypes given to them by society. We, the women of the Zeta Rho Chapter of Delta Gamma are not defined by those stereotypes. Instead, we collectively possess characteristics, qualities and experiences that defy them.”
