7 Reasons Going to College with Your Best Friend is Awesome

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Winthrop chapter.

Ladies, we all have one person that comes to mind when we hear the words “best friend”. My best friend is someone that has come into my life and never left, despite what I’ve put her through. She’s been there for me through thick and thin, and knows all of my deepest secrets and insecurities. My best friend is part of who I am, and I know I wouldn’t be the same without her. I’m incredibly thankful that I get to continue to study by her side. For all of my girls that are lucky enough to hail from the same Alma Mater as your best friend, here are some of the most amazing things about going to college together!

1. You know she knows what you need.

Somehow, best friends magically know what you need, when you need it, and where to find it when you forget. Did you forget to buy a textbook? Don’t worry, your best friend is taking that class too and has the book you need to borrow. Forget you phone charger at the dorm? Of course your BFF has hers on hand. Double booked yourself? Don’t worry, she’s got the damage under control. Drama with your significant other? She’s already talked them off the break-up ledge. Your best friend has your back (and most of the things you forgot to grab) 24/7, no questions asked.

2. You’ve got someone to screen your potential dates.

Yes, that guy from your hometown is cute, but your BFF will be the first to remind you that no, you don’t want to do a long distance relationship, and yes, she’s sure that this is what you need. She’s there to screen your online dating profile, cute guys in your classes and anyone who so much as looks at you when crossing the street. Her ears are always open to gossip about the hot boy you saw in the dining hall, and she’s the most discreet person in the world when you see him in public. She holds your potential dates to a higher standard than you do, and knows you’ll thank her for it later. With her by your side, you’ll never go on a crappy date with a random boy again.

3. You’ve just instantly doubled your outfit choices.

We all have that one piece of clothing we’re SO jealous our BFF has and we don’t. If you and your bestie are on campus together, that’s not a problem! You have double the choices on shoes, jewelry, scarves and more…you name it, she’s got it. The best part is that it’s so easy to return! A couple flights of stairs or a walk across campus and you’ll never have to worry about going out of style (or accidentally keeping all her clothes) ever again.

4. You never have to worry about going out alone.

Where you go, she goes. Really need to study, but don’t want to walk across campus alone? She’s got a test tomorrow and seriously needs to cram, and is totally down for a late night study session. Craving a sweet treat, but scared of braving the dining hall alone? Your girl is already putting on her shoes and grabbing her keys, because nobody has a sweet tooth like she does. Want to join a club, but worried about not knowing anyone there? You’re practically the same person as your BFF, so she’s always down to join clubs with you. If you’re on the same campus as your best friend, you’ll never have to be alone again.

5. Always having weekend plans.

Never again will you lay in bed alone for 12 hours on a Saturday. Having your best friend in such close range means a lot of last-minute plans will pop up on the weekends. Take this newfound free time to explore the city with your girl and make sure you hit all the hot spots around town. Bonus? Having your BFF with you makes being single more fun. Who needs a boyfriend anyway, right?

6. Having someone to keep you motivated to study and workout.

We all need a little motivation from time to time, and your best friend is your personal cheerleader. She knows when you need to hit the books and when you need to hit the gym. Your BFF is the last push you need to get that assignment turned in on time, and your inspiration to sweat it out even when you don’t want to. The best part of it all? You’ve got an automatic workout buddy! Don’t forget to take pictures, because we all know that’s the best part of a workout.

7. Last, but not least, you’ve got a true friend to navigate the real world with.

Taking on a new city can be scary at times, and college is stressful on any level. Having someone you know and love to help you through this weird transition period can be an absolute life saver! This is the time where you get lost, find yourself and learn who you really are. Your best friend is ready to figure out how to live in the real world too, so get ready to go on the best adventure of your life with the person who knows you inside and out.

Collegiettes, you have your BFF at college with you, take this as a sign to text your BFF and tell her you love her!
