Mug Meals for the Lazy Girl

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Winona chapter.

We’re getting to the point in the semester where clubs have slightly less free food to offer and your schedule is a tad bit fuller. Don’t have time to eat in the dining hall? Or too lazy to leave your building to go get breakfast, lunch, dinner, or *cough* midnight snack? There’s a simple solution…Mug Meals!

We’ve all seen the mug meals recipes on Pinterest and have had a thought of “I can do that.” So I took the initiative to test these mug creations.

The first one I found was microwave French toast. However, it called for some ingredients I know most college students don’t have in their dorm rooms so I did some googling and switched out certain ingredients for others.

Mug French ToastIngredients:

·         1 slice of toast

·         1 cup of cinnamon applesauce

·         1  tbsp of butter (you can sneak this out of the dining hall if you have to)

Steps:

1.       Melt the butter in the microwave for about 30 seconds

2.       Take your mug out of the microwave and tilt it so that butter covers the walls

3.       Mix in the applesauce

4.       Put in pieces of your bread so that they are soaked in the applesauce

5.       Microwave your mug for 90 seconds

6.       Enjoy!

Now for this one, you could buy the pre-made EasyMac, but what’s the fun in that? And do you really want weird powered cheese in your body?

That’s what I thought.

Mac N’ CheeseIngredients:

·         Small handful of pasta

·         ¾ cup of water

·         4 tbsp of milk

·         4 tbsp of cheese

Directions:

1.       Grab the largest mug you have and put the noodles and water in it. Microwave for about 5 minutes (or until your pasta is fully cooked).

2.       Pour the remaining water out.

3.       Mix in your milk and cheese.

4.       Make fun cheesy jokes like “Cheesin’ for a reason” and then enjoy!

Desserts! Everyone’s favorite. This is will be the last easy recipe I have for you.

Peach Cobbler Mug CakeIngredients:

·        1 tbsp butter

·         3 tbsp white cake mix (any cake mix will work)

·         1 – 2 pinches of cinnamon (nutmeg is optional)

·         2 ½ tbsp milk

.         1 can (4 oz.) diced peaches in light syrup

Directions:

1. Place butter in a mug and melt.

2. In a small bowl, whisk together cake mix and cinnamon. Then whisk in milk and stir until well blended.

3. Pour mixture over melted butter in mug (DON’T STIR).

4. Pour peaches over cake mix. DON’T STIR (leave some of the liquid in).

5. Microwave on 50% power for about 3-4 minutes until desired doneness. Top with ice cream for some extra sweetness.

With these simple and realistic versions of mug meals, you’re on your way to a happy tummy. Freshman-tested, dorm-room approved.

I love exploring the outdoors, writing, whales, and have a major sweet tooth for cheesecake! Volleyball and hockey are my favorite sports to play and watch. When it comes to writing, I love it. I truly enjoy being able to write articles and stories about topics people would enjoy reading.
