We’re getting to the end of the term. We’re all busy, the weather is all over the place, none of us used our reading week as well as we should have (I refuse to believe it’s just me), so I figured we could all use a little self-esteem boost, as well as a kick in the butt to get back to work! That’s why I have carefully crafted the most random list of things that you just might need to hear right now. I can’t promise it will all be nice, but I promise you need to hear it. Prepare for some unsolicited advice and positive affirmations y’all!

Let’s get started.

You look really pretty today.

And if you see someone else who looks pretty, tell them! I promise they won’t think it’s creepy as long as you’re being genuine.

No one noticed that stupid thing you did. Let it go.

People tend not to remember the embarrassing things you did, but you know what they do remember? Nice things. So pay for that person’s coffee if they don’t have money or hold the door, something kind for another person. It will make you feel good to do a nice thing, and it will make someone else feel better.

You need to sleep.

You also need to eat well.

But, eat some ice cream if you’re having a bad day.

If you’re not feeling well, take a day off.

Yes, this is a busy time, but you need to make sure you’re at your best before you can do your best.

Know your habits and find ways to use them productively.

If you’re anxious or overwhelmed, go for a walk.

The fresh air can help reset your brain and give you a break from whatever is stressing you out.

You know what else helps anxiety? Petting a dog.

Find a dog and pet it. Right now. Go.

There is someone in your life who really wants to spend time with you. Reach out to them.

Phone your mom.

Or someone you might not get to see often who loves you.

Of the eight billion people on this Earth, no one sees the world exactly like you do.

Treat yourself. You deserve it. But…

Don’t overdo it.

Treating yourself should be a reward for something you didn’t want to do. If you treat yourself four times a week, it loses its reputation as a reward and just becomes that thing that you do every time you’re stressed.

You will never realize how much you impact the lives of those around you.

You have the power to be the supportive best friend, the kind stranger, the fairy godparent in someone else’s story. Your job is to make sure that your contribution to other people’s stories is as positive as it can be, and to recognize that the actions you take can positively influence those around you in ways you can never completely understand. That means you need to power through and be the best you can be, not just for yourself, but for all the people you love and have never met whose lives it is your destiny to make better.

That got a little deep, didn’t it?

Hopefully my little snippets of advice and positive affirmations have made your day a little better, and gotten you thinking about how you can be kind to yourself and to those around you.

Love you and have a great day!
