This week, Her Campus WLU is introducing you to our executive team! Make sure to check out our hiring post and reach out if you have any questions!

What’s your name and position?

Emily Waitson, Co-President

What are you studying?

History and English

What’s the best part about being in your position on Her Campus WLU?

The best part about being in my position is being able to lead such a wonderful, talented, inspirational group of individuals each week. When I joined Her Campus in 2016 as a writer, I never thought that I’d be in the place I am today (as cheesy as that sounds), and it’s been an unforgettable experience I never thought I’d have.

Have any fun facts?

I met James and Oliver Phelps (the Weasley twins) and Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) a few years ago at the Toronto Fan Expo and it was one of the greatest experiences of my life so far. They were all lovely and down to earth people, 10/10 would recommend.

Any other commitments on campus?

I’m the Arts and Life Editor for The Cord, as well as one of the Editors-in-Chief for LUJA Volume 6!

If you won the lottery, what would you buy first?

I’ve thought about this a lot, and the very first thing I would do is make sure that my parents, who have worked ridiculously hard to make sure I have everything I need and could ever want, were covered financially for the rest of their lives. Then I’d buy a puppy. Easy.

Go-to meal at Wilf’s?

Anything with Spin Dip slathered on it. Or Loaded Fries!

Best study spot?

I have a few favourites: the Science Atrium, the Princess Cafe, and a nook that I’ve found on the 5th floor of the library that I make a beeline for whenever I’m up there.

Favourite animal?

I love all animals with my heart and soul, but I have a particular affinity for sloths. My dream is to go to a sloth sanctuary one day and probably cry about it like the softie I am.

Best Bath and Body Works scent?

Currently burning their “Leaves” candle and it’s heavenly. Most wonderfully seasonal smell there is.

Favourite memory from high school?

Graduating and never having to go back.

Any pets?

Yes! Two cats, Molly and Archie.

Where would you like to be instead of writing exams?

Laying on a beach in Greece or sitting in a French cafe eating pastries and drinking delicious coffee.

What form would your patronus take?

This is a question I’ve considered since I was 10 years-old and my consensus is that it would definitely be a fox.

Any fun hobbies you have?

When I actually have time I really enjoy sketching and making art. I also love writing, it’s my passion and I do it for fun whenever I have the chance.

What’s your perfect date?

I like super relaxed dates or something spontaneous. Anything where we’re both having fun, laughing and enjoying ourselves is always a win, like going to an arcade or cooking together. I’ll never say no to the tried-and-true dinner and a movie night though.

Movie you think everyone should see at least once?

I have a never ending list, but a few greats are Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, WALL-E, Fargo, and Casablanca.

Any advice you’d give your first year self?

Babe, you’re scared shitless of everything and always so worried about what people will think of you when you really, really don’t need to be. You will find your place, meet some great people, and everything won’t always be perfect, but you’ll end up okay.

Celebrity you’d love to meet?

They say you should never meet your heroes, but I would lose my shit if I met Tom Hanks. If not, I’d choose RuPaul, I feel like he’d give great advice.

Think that you and Emily would get along? Apply to join Her Campus at Wilfrid Laurier before 31 December!
