No matter how old I get, the High School Musical trilogy is one of my favourite feel-good series. It never fails to make me smile, laugh and occasionally break out in song. Not only are the movies timeless, but they also have great life lessons.

Friends are Everything

If there’s one takeaway from these movies, it’s that friends should be put above everything. A friendship like Troy and Chad’s is hard to come by, yet throughout the whole movie series, they stay by each other’s side. At the end of the day, your friends will be there when the girl doesn’t work or the college scholarship falls through. So be good to them, as good friends are hard to find.

Do What You Want

Don’t make major life decisions based on what other people think you should be doing. If people don’t believe in your dreams, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t follow them. When Troy is being pressured to choose basketball over the theatre, he chooses both, regardless of what his peers think. Don’t base your goals off of others, do what you’re passionate about!

Don’t Judge a Book by its Cover

It’s very easy to judge people based on appearance or things you have heard about them but remember to always form your own opinion. If High School Musical taught me one thing, it’s do not stick to the status quo. It’s okay if a basketball player likes to bake or if a brainiac likes to dance. All that matters is that you’re happy with what you’re doing.

It’s Not Cool to be Mean

On the surface, it seems that everyone worships Sharpay when they’re just afraid to be her next target. High school and life are full of bullies. High School Musical teaches us to stand up to the bullies, rather than let them continue their reign. Gabriella isn’t afraid to put Sharpay in her place and I think everyone was happier to see Gabriella on stage in the end.

Change is Normal

Life won’t stay the same forever. Although change may be scary, it’s perfectly normal and happens to everyone. If Gabriella had been too afraid to leave Troy and her friends, she may have never taken the opportunity to go to Stanford. While this change was hard for her to adjust to, it was for the best.

If You Have Any Orange, Get Rid of It

This piece of life advice is straight from Sharpay herself and is something everyone should take into account when forming a picture-perfect wardrobe.

Overall, the High School Musical trilogy teaches us many life lessons. Stay close to your friends, follow your dreams, make decisions that make you happy but most of all, have fun and enjoy being young!
