5 Holiday Baking Recipes That Will Impress Your Family When Your Grades Won’t

The holiday season is definitely about giving but, more importantly, it’s about BAKING! December marks the return of some of our favourite Christmas cookies and sweets. 1. Mini Meringue Kisses from the Meringue Girls

-300g superfine sugar (1 1/2 cups)

-150g egg whites (from about 5 eggs)

-Red food colouring for striping

These are super cute and surprisingly easy to make – if I can do it, then you definitely can!

2. Sticky Buns from Pillsbury

Topping

-¼ cup butter or margarine

-¼ cup packed brown sugar

-2 tbsp. light corn syrup

-¼ cup chopped pecans

Buns

-3 tbsp. butter or margarine, melted

-1/3 cup granulated sugar

-½ tspn. ground cinnamon

-1 can (7.5 oz) Pillsbury™ refrigerated buttermilk biscuits

A tasty treat for Christmas Day brunch, especially when paired with a mimosa…or two!

3. Saltine Cracker Toffee from the Girl Who Ate Everything

-40 salted saltine crackers or enough to line your pan

-1 cup unsalted butter

-1 cup packed brown sugar

-2 cups milk chocolate or semi-sweet chocolate chips

-¾ cup chopped pecans (optional)

This is always a crowd pleaser at any holiday party!

4. Ginger Sparklers from Rachel Cooks

-2 cups all-purpose flour

-1 tbsp. ground ginger

-2 tsp baking powder

-1 tsp ground cinnamon

-1/2 tsp salt

-3/4 cups shortening

-1 cup white granulated sugar + extra for rolling

-1 large egg

-1/4 cup molasses

5. Homemade Turtles from Averie Cooks

-8 ounces pecan halves

-25 caramel squares, unwrapped (about 1 heaping cup)

-1/4 cup cream or half-and-half

-16 ounces of the chocolate of your choosing
