Valentine’s Day is known to be for couples, and to be all about LOVE. Well, this one goes out to those who have an amazing group of friends who they LOVE. Just because you’re single doesn’t mean this day isn’t for you too! Here are some ways to make this usually dreadful day one to look forward to.

Chick-flick night

While all of your taken friends are out in uncomfortable clothes trying to look classy and impress their S/O, curl up in your most comfy sweats with your single BFFs and watch your favourite chick flick. The only thing better than sitting around and talking shit about the men that surround you is having a movie do it for you!

Get your nails done

Having your nails done is one of the most underrated activities you can do. Not only can you hang out with a friend while trying to decipher if the nail lady is talking shit about you or not, but you leave feeling fresh and put together.

Fifty Shades

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know this movie is a must see. You can live vicariously and get some sexy new tips to spice up your sex life. Pro tip: if you want to go the night of Valentine’s Day, pre-order your tickets now!!!

Baking party

Bake yourself whatever you want instead of pretending to be all cute and thin with your salad at dinner with that boy. Baking can be a huge stress reliever since Valentine’s Day is right in the middle of midterm SZN, so go out, get some ingredients, and make Valentine’s Day themed cupcakes (or anti-Valentine’s day, whatever floats your boat).

Fancy dinner date night

Make a reservation at a fancy restaurant, get all dressed up and enjoy dinner with someone who has no potential of breaking your heart. You’ll have a better time anyways, and you can play the “how long have they been dating” game based on how awkward the surrounding couples are.

Boyfriend bonfire

You’ve probably seen this in a favourite TV show such as Friends, but why not make it a reality? If you or a friend are going through a recent breakup, or just have an ongoing hatred for exes, release your build-up anger and resentment with a boyfriend bonfire! There is no right way to do it, but we think Phoebe’s is the best: Burning their stuff, or dancing around and chanting naked… with sticks!

Shopping spree

Retail therapy is a thing… trust us. You can always do this at the mall with your friends, or combine with one of the above ideas such as a movie night baking party, and online shop some great deals!

Secret Valentine

As much as you may hate Valentine’s Day, nobody can turn down a good gift. Set up a secret Valentine with your closest single ladies, and make sure everyone is a little spoiled on this day. Some gift ideas could include chocolate, makeup, anything from VS, a candle, stuffed animals, fuzzy socks, etc.!

Makeover night

Nothing like a spa night to get you feeling refreshed and close to your BFFs. Make this a casual night in with facemasks and makeup tutorials, or if you’re feeling extra bougie, book a massage or a facial! Wine is always good, too.

Do a new workout class

Going to the gym is a great distraction and is known to clear your mind. Make a day out of it and do a new class with your girls, you’ll leave feeling accomplished and proud of yourself. Whether the goal is revenge bod or simply feeling good for you, no one has ever regretted a good workout.

There’s no reason to give into the pressures of the social construct that is Valentine’s Day. Some people love it, and even some in relationships do not, however it can still be a good excuse to enjoy some time alone with friends or with a S/O. If you’re an avid Anti-Valentine’s day person, do an activity that you enjoy and surround yourself with those that make you happy! Who says you need to dread Valentine’s Day?!?
