Victoria Park Lights Up For The Holidays

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Western chapter.

Victoria Park’s annual “Winter Wonderland” is kicking off with the Lighting of the Lights and the opening of the Santa House on the evening of December 1.

More than 75,000 multi-coloured lights will illuminate the park’s trees. Thousands of Londoners are expected to travel to the park to view the lights.

Santa Claus, courtesy of “Santa At Your House,” will be present in the Santa House for pictures.

Last winter, second year economics student Michelle Li accidentally stumbled upon the lights and is excited to return this year.

“I went to a club’s social nearby and I saw the lights on the trees. I didn’t know about the tradition or that it was even Victoria Park, but I thought that it looked really nice,” said Li.

She loves the joy of the holidays and invited her roommates to tag along with her this year.

“I’m expecting a jolly and festive time with my roommates,” said Li. “The Christmas spirit always keeps me going and it’s nice to go to the London community events.”

The Winter Wonderland event is free and will run from December 1st to December 31st.

The Lighting of the Lights event starts at 6:15 p.m. and the lights will turn on at 6:50 p.m.

Free public skating will begin December 8, operating from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.  Festive displays will also be featured throughout the Winter Wonderland.
