Natural makeup is seriously the best. It’s becoming a popular choice among people interested in healthy skin, and the ingredients are all to be credited for that. Just like how not every synthetic ingredient is inherently bad, not every clean ingredient is amazing for you. Nonetheless, it’s important to bring awareness to beauty fanatics to encourage them to upgrade their makeup collection for more healthy and radiant skin. Even if it’s only buying one product. Here’s a run-down on what these clean beauty companies stand for, and what carefully chosen earth-based ingredients can do for any skin type.

ILIA

ILIA uses safe formulas to protect and revive your skin to achieve a natural, radiant glow. The brand uses SPF to protect skin from harmful free radicals from the stressors of the environment. SPF makes the product last longer on your skin when exposed to sunlight and it won’t melt. ILIA uses carefully curated ingredients that are 100% organic and free of all chemicals.

ILIA beauty products are cruelty-free, as well as gluten- and dairy-free. ILIA guarantees hydration and a brightened look with their makeup products that awakens dull skin. Clean ingredients include hyaluronic acid—which is used to hydrate and moisturize the skin—found in many of their lip products including their lip mask. Jojoba oil is found in their concealers to reduce dryness and give a natural glow. Arnica, an herb known for reducing inflammation, is used in their eye primer to reduce puffiness.

RMS Beauty

RMS Beauty is against today’s popular beauty products, many of which are infused with toxic chemicals that can damage the skin over time. Their mission is to influence women to choose a lifestyle driven towards anti-ageing and living a long, beautiful life. RMS Beauty uses raw and natural ingredients closest to its natural form and is free of chemicals such as parabens or GMO.

Ingredients include Jojoba oil—a product that the body cannot distinguish from the naturally produced oil in the skin called sebum—which helps the skin to protect and heal from external toxins. Jojoba oil is rich in antioxidants which is useful for hydrating the skin and is found in many of their lip products. Rosehip Oil is hydrating and anti-ageing; it increases collagen that firms and smoothens the skin and is included in their foundations. Rosehip oil is loaded with vitamin C to brighten any skin type. Vitamin E—which helps protect the skin from the damaging effects of free radicals—is an antioxidant that smoothens the skin and it is found in their eyeshadow.

Juice Beauty

A unique clean brand that truly represents its name, Juice Beauty uses juice-based ingredients directly derived from plants, which they believe are the least harmful ingredients for human skin. These ingredients include an aloe leaf, hyaluronic acid from vegetables and rose powder. Aloe leaf juice is rich in glycoproteins which can improve skin hydration and natural moisture.

Hyaluronic acid derived from vegetables helps to plump and hydrate the skin naturally –– and is a vital ingredient in their liquid foundations. Rose powder is a pigment that is an alternative to synthetic or artificial dyes and is found in their red and pink lipsticks.

They avoid unacceptable ingredients such as synthetic fragrances, parabens and do not test on animals. All of their makeup products are vegan, are made out of plant pigments and are free of synthetic dyes. Juice Beauty uses an organic base of botanical juices, powders and waxes in their makeup products.

Kosas

Free of parabens, petroleum, aluminum, sulfates, talc and more. Kosas uses clean beauty from the curated pigments to the weightless texture of the chemical-free formula. Clean ingredients include jojoba oil, which soothes the skin in their liquid foundation, rosehip oil that balances, avocado oil that moisturizes and a red raspberry oil that repairs the skin.

Shea butter is a common ingredient among the beauty line to smooth and soften the skin and is included in their lip and cheek products. Another ingredient is grape seed oil found in their blush and highlighter that works as an anti-inflammatory to reduce puffiness. Marula oil is an antioxidant that helps protect the skin against free radicals (atoms that cause ageing), which is also included in their cheek products.

Tarte

Tarte believes in using organic ingredients to amplify makeup’s ability to be good for your skin using naturally-derived ingredients from plant extract and fruits, and excluding chemicals such as parabens, phthalates, sodium lauryl sulfate, triclosan, or gluten. Tarte prioritizes finding worldwide natural ingredients that are clinically proven, effective and long-wearing. Their makeup includes a variety of gorgeous colours and pigments that benefit your skin to hydrate with natural oils in each ingredient.

Their Amazonian Clay powder blush’s key ingredient is nature-based with long-lasting pigment that balances skin colour. Vitamin E works as an antioxidant. The BB-tinted moisturizer with SPF protects the skin from rays and also features amazonian. It’s infused with Vitamin E and Vitamin A, an anti-ageing mineral. The chamomile extract works as an anti-inflammatory to moisturize dry skin with its essential oil.

What’s risky about using drugstore brands is that the chemicals may not be a concern now, but they can cause wrinkles or skin conditions in the long run. Usually, the fragrance or synthetic chemicals like parabens or sulfates ages the skin. That’s why it’s important to wear sunscreen under your makeup if it’s not already included in a product to reap the anti-aging benefits.

Know what you’re putting in your skin to actually help it, instead of risking it!
