Meet the Senior Editor: Naomi Barghiel

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Western chapter.

How old are you? 21

Hometown? Toronto, ON

What program are you in? Honours Specialization in Media, Information and Technoculture with a Minor in Creative Writing.

Why did you want to become a member of Her Campus Western? In my second year of university, this year’s HCW President (Anika In’t Hout) shared an article she wrote on Facebook which inspired me to check out the club! I started reading more articles and was instantly intrigued by the lighthearted style Her Campus adopts in combination with topics that I felt reflected my own values and beliefs. I haven’t looked back since!

What are your hobbies and interests? I really enjoy doing digital art on my iPad –– I do some almost every day, either for myself or other people. They all end up on my Instagram page. I am also a film fanatic, so I try to watch as many movies as possible.

Any pets? Unfortunately no!

Where is the first place you’d like to travel to once the quarantine is lifted? Every summer since I was born I’d visit my entire family in Romania, but I obviously was unable to do so this year. So, Romania would be the first place I’d visit!

Where do you see yourself in twenty years? Oh boy, I’d be 41! Hopefully I have a stable, yet exciting job, in either journalism or television. I also hope I’ll get to travel often.

Who is your biggest inspiration? I would have to say both of my parents. They escaped from Romania during a dangerous time and built a new life from the ground up in Canada. They have both taught me a lot about the importance of balancing hard work, taking care of yourself and finding time for basic pleasures.
