This past Sunday, January 30th, the members, soon-to-be members, and friends of Her Campus Western sang their hearts out at Molly Bloom’s Irish Pub, a warm and inviting scene that offered a great place to chat with both current and potential members. The event was a recruitment night, meant to draw in new members for the new semester. A crowd of about thirty popped in and out throughout the evening.
The night began with relaxing chats about life and eventually turned into an evening of singing a variety of throwback anthems and recent hits. Whether jamming out to ABBA’s “Mamma Mia” or Ed Sheeran’s more recent “Galway Girl,” karaoke offered the members a fantastic way to hang out and chat about the club.
“When my friend Amy Scott and I found out we were going to an Irish pub for Karaoke Night, we realized that there was no other option but to reveal our inner Galway Gal,” said member Chantal Hermetz. “Everyone came up to the stage and joined our performance. We encourage and support each other when we make fools of ourselves on stage…it’s a magical club, really.”
The night was filled with warm remarks about both the club and its members.
“Karaoke night with Her Campus was so fun,” said member Lauren Forster. “I felt super supported and had a lot of fun with the HC girls.”
The night was just one of the many events offered by HCW throughout the year, which are open to members and friends.
“Joining Her Campus has provided me with an outlet for writing and all things creative,” said Hermetz. “More than that, it’s given me the opportunity to meet so many brilliant women who believe and stand by each other. This isn’t a space for competition, it’s a space of encouragement and that’s something that can otherwise be difficult to find in university.”
HCW writes articles targeting university women about life, love, events, and more. Western’s chapter is continuously accepting new members and is always looking for new talent.
