On Sunday, November 19th, Her Campus Western partnered with Tommy Hilfiger for a festive holiday potluck for our members. After a semester of hard work, quality articles, and teamwork, HCW writers were treated to an evening of good food and better company.

Soon enough, the hosts’ dining table was packed with all kinds of treats, from snickerdoodles and spring rolls to potato chips and pepperoni pizza. There was even a tray full of delicious veggies to ensure adequate nutrition in the case of too many biscuits.
For their holiday gifts, writers were each given a Tommy tote bag with custom patches and pins to decorate the bag with. These stylish bags were from Her Campus’ partnership with Tommy Hilfiger for the holiday season. The winner for the best decorated tote bag, Visual Executive Chantal Hermetz, received a custom prize pack, and Arts Editor Shauna Valchuk managed to negotiate second place, winning a Her Campus pinney.

HCW also wanted to give back this holiday season, deciding to support Anova, the merger between the Women’s Community House and Sexual Assault Centre London. In order to raise funds, HCW held an auction for our members. Up for grabs were two prize packs full of fun HC merch, Tommy Hilfiger’s “The Girl” perfume and a “Hella Feminist” wine glass from the hcxo shop. HCW will continue to support Anova throughout the rest of the year.
After everyone had filled up on cookies and chips and homemade dips, HCW wanted to honour its most dedicated members with awards. While everyone worked extremely hard this semester, a few members stood out for writing exceptional articles, supporting HCW on social media, and being all around hard-working.

“Editor’s Pick” went to Katie Olney for her articles earning the most Editor’s Picks, where HCW’s editors choose their favourite articles of the week. Her viral smash “I Lost My Virginity To A Tinder Hookup And My Only Regret Was Not Telling My Mom,” as well as her other articles, demonstrate Katie’s flair for writing.
“Social Superstar” was awarded to Shauna Valchuk for consistently sharing and supporting HCW articles on social media. “Special Mention” went to Visual Executive Jodie Roach for going above and beyond in all her work for HCW. HCW’s Chapter Advisor picked Blog Editor Maggie Gauthier for the CA pick, citing her inspirational and honest articles.
Editor-in-Chief Becca Serena was very pleased with the outcome of the event.
“It was wonderful seeing so many of our writers chatting and bonding over such a diverse array of food,” said Serena. “The team brought such a great energy to the event and it was so fun auctioning items and decorating our new Tommy bags.”
During the holiday season, it’s important to find time to relax and spend time with those important to us. HCW thanks Tommy Hilfiger for sponsoring an event that allowed us to come together and celebrate our achievements, and thanks our writers for an incredible first semester!
