Now that the Winter months and cold weather are closely approaching, it’s the perfect time to take the extra steps to keep your skin glowing throughout the whole holiday season. During this time, our skin can get dull and tired looking, which can sometimes affect our mood and confidence. Some of the more traditional ways to get glowy skin is by getting proper sleep, hydrating with lots of water, and making sure you get enough Vitamin C, either through food or taking vitamins once a day!

I have curated five steps to help you brighten up your skin and get that natural glow from within. Whether you’re a skin care beginner or a pro, these tips and tricks will guide you to the best products that have changed my life.

Step #1: Exfoliation

First off, exfoliating your skin is honestly your best skin superpower. It is the best tool to take off all the gunk and grime of your long day. As each day progresses, toxins and dead skin builds up on the surface of our skin, especially if you have an oily or combination skin type. Due to this, it is vital to use an exfoliator after cleansing your face.

However, it’s not effective to use an exfoliator daily, as this will be too much for your skin, especially for drier skin types. Instead, try using a soft liquid or brush exfoliator 2-3 times a week to really open up your pores and let out all the dirt.

Personally, my favourite product to use is a toner. Glycolic acid is a great skin care secret that I use twice a day—once in the morning and once at night. This type of acid is a natural exfoliant that leaves your skin feeling fresh and brighter every time you use it. I highly suggest this toner by Mario Badescu, as it is one of the skin care products I swear by.

Step #2: Nourish

Don’t ignore this next step, as it goes hand-in-hand with exfoliation. Investing in a proper serum that really works to brighten your skin has been one of the best choices I’ve made. Personally, I find that the best serums to try out are ones that include Vitamin C as one of their primary ingredients.

When using serums, don’t be surprised if you don’t see any real results for a while. Sometimes these products can take some time to really work and change the overall complexion of your skin. My favourite brightening serum is the Olé Henriksen Truth Serum, as it has really brightened up my dark spots and my under-eye circles over the last couple months.

Step#3: Refresh

Another secret that I love to add once in a while to my skin care routine are facial hydrating sprays. Not only do they feel really refreshing and cool on my skin when I’m tired, but they also tone down my redness and breakouts. Facial sprays are also a great way to prep and finish off your makeup, as they really tighten up your pores and give a clean finish to your look.

I specifically love the Mario Badescu facial spray as it contains rose water, which is a natural anti-inflammatory that reduces redness and irritated dry skin patches. It has also been said to be an anti-aging remedy over time.

Step #4: Treat Ya Self

This is one of the most fun and relaxing steps that will keep your skin glowing all winter long! Putting on a mask that hydrates or deeply cleanses your skin is not only a necessity, but it is also a great way for you to take some time for yourself.

Overnight masks are a must-have for the colder months as they give your skin the proper hydration that it needs and allow your skin to soak up moisture as you sleep. Also, any type of mask that contains activated charcoal will release toxins, bacteria and dirt build-up that tend to sit in the pores of your skin. This type of mask will really help you get rid of those pesky blackheads!
