I’ve been a huge Ed Sheeran fan ever since hearing “The A Team.” Since then I’ve fallen in love with his lyrics, which always seem to have so much depth. His newest album, “Divide,” is no exception. It has a good mix of dance jams, emotional ballads and love songs.

Here’s my breakdown of the album.

Barcelona

This song is a great start to the album. It’s very fun and upbeat; it would be the perfect dance song. Putting this on my workout playlist.

Best Line: “Let’s pretend we’re dancing in the street”

Bibia Be Ye Ye

This song definitely confused me at first since I had no idea what he was saying. It is a jumbled song but it’s upbeat and a lot of fun.

Best Line: “Someone told me, always say what’s on your mind”

Castle on the Hill

As one of the main singles from the album it’s a lot of fun and a powerful song. It’s also very catchy; I keep getting it stuck in my head. I would recommend this song to anyone who’s not a big Ed fan.

Best Line: “and my first kiss on a Friday night, I don’t reckon that I did it right, I was younger then”

Dive

I loved this song; it had the powerful Ed sound that I love so much. It was a love song about starting a new relationship and being uncertain about ‘diving’ in.

Best Line: “So don’t call me baby, unless you mean it”

Eraser

While this song is a very emotional song about fame it seemed very relatable despite that. I found myself feeling the same way even though it was a specific story, which is the sign of a good song!

Best Line: “I’m well aware of certain things that can destroy a man like me”

Galway Girl

This song was so catchy and made me want to dance. While I didn’t emotionally connect with the song since it wasn’t very meaningful, I did love it. If you’re in the mood to dance this is the perfect song.

Best Line: “Kissed her on the neck and then I took her by the hand”

Happier

This is a deeper slower song that was emotional and powerful. One of the ballads that people associate with the Ed Sheeran sound.

Best Line: “You seem happier you do, my friends say one day I’ll feel it too”

Hearts Don’t Break Round Here

While this was a sweet ballad, it’s not as strong as many of his love songs. It’s a song that I would skip if I didn’t have the time to listen to the whole album.

Best Line: “Every night I’ll kiss you, you’ll say in my ear, oh we’re in love aren’t we”

How Would You Feel

I personally loved this song; it was another slow love song. Although the song was not powerful vocally it was an emotional piece.

Best Line: “We sat upon our best friends roof, I had both of my arms wrapped around you, watching the sunrise replace the moon”

Nancy Mulligan

I immediately wanted to get on my feet and dance to this song. It’s a love story that Ed is telling in the song: this was sweet but also confusing since I didn’t originally know what he was singing about. However, the song is about his grandparents.

Best Line: “She and I went on the run, no care about religion”

New Man

Ed raps again! I personally love his raps, and it helps to change the mood of the album. It’s a nice change and the song had me jamming along.

Best Line: “You’re just a young girl tryin’ a be loved”

Perfect

This song was very sweet, it reminded me of Tenerife Sea. It’s one of Ed’s ballads that I know I’m going to have on repeat.

Best Line: “We were just kids when we fell in love, not knowing what it was”

Save Myself

If you’re looking for a new breakup/sad song to add to your playlist, this is it. The song was very emotional and passionate but so stunning.

Best Line: “I drove miles and miles, would you do the same for me”

Shape of You

This is one of Ed’s singles, so it’s clearly one of the best on the album. I can hear this song being played at the club because it’s so catchy.

Best Line: “Your love was handmade for somebody like me”

Supermarket Flowers

This song is in a style that I can only describe as completely Ed Sheeran, in the same tone as his songs like Even My Dad Does Sometimes. The song seems to be about losing his mom, so it’s very powerful.

Best Line: “Dad always told me don’t you cry when you’re down, but mum there’s a tear every time that I blink”

What Do I Know

This is a nice feel good song about not taking the world too seriously. I really enjoyed the change of pace.

Best Line: “Remember life is more than fitting in your jeans”

If you haven’t listened to the album, DO IT! It’s so amazing and has a sound that no other artist has.
