My New Year’s Resolutions for 2020

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Waseda chapter.

Dear Her Campus readers,

Happy New Year everyone! I’m assuming that many of you are surprised that the world’s new chapter, 2020, has already started! I’m astonished too with how time flies so quickly!

I hope all of you have enjoyed your winter break. Now that Christmas and New Year’s are over, it is time for us to go back to school and/or work. But before that, I want to stop by and ask all of you, what are your New Year’s resolutions for this year? Oh, but you don’t need to tell me if you don’t want to though (haha).

There are numerous athletes in this world who are training enthusiastically to prepare well for their performances at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. That is to say, this year of the Olympics is also the time for all of us (who are not athletes) to work diligently to accomplish our small and big goals.

I’m going to share with you my New Year’s resolutions for 2020. I know some of these are too realistic, while some other ones are too crazy. However, I’m sorry, I also do have my privacy rights, so even though all of my goals are true, I won’t be describing any of these in detailed and explicit ways.

Once again, none of you have to share your New Year’s Resolutions to anyone other than yourself. You need to be true to yourself so that you can make your wishes come true, but you can just keep those dreams inside your heart. It’s also okay if your goals for 2020 are too realistic and/or crazy!

New Year’s Resolution #1: Academics

Since I’m in my senior year, I actually don’t have many classes this semester, and I won’t really have much next semester either. Thus, my main goal for academics is definitely to finish my graduation thesis (wait, I’m actually nearly finished with it). I’m more so hoping for my final draft of my graduation thesis to be the one that can help give significant messages to any possible readers.

New Year’s Resolution #2: Works

As I’ll be graduating from university this year, I definitely need to find a career that will match me well. Since I don’t have a good sense of direction, I promise to always wake up very early in the morning and leave the house very early, so that I won’t panic about getting lost on all of my important days. I will also try my best to visit the venues a few days beforehand so I won’t stress out that I might be walking in the wrong direction on the most important days of my life.

New Year’s Resolution #3: Personality

I won’t forget to smile. I won’t forget to show gratitude to everyone, including those who I know and don’t know that well. Everyone has a different perspective, so I should never forget to respect each person’s view. I’m doing well on these aspects every year, but I want to smile more, respect more, and give more thanks to everyone especially on 2020, as this is the year of my university graduation. Also, this year, I need to learn to calm down when some things won’t go well on me. I’ll try to quickly fix what was wrong, and tell myself that everything will much be better tomorrow.

New Year’s Resolution #4: Mental Health

I’ll stretch myself at least two times a day, as I think that stretching is the best exercise to relax and to give myself the energy to progress well on my tasks. Additionally, I’ll drink more water and reduce the amount of coffee and any other kinds of caffeine. Moreover, I’ll be a better morning bird and use my time wisely, so that I won’t have to cram on anything late at night.

New Year’s Resolution #5: Relationships

I’m really hoping that in 2020, I’ll be able to reunite with many of the people that I would really love to meet again (haha).

New Year’s Resolution #6: Recreational Activities

It’s the year that I can have my graduation trip! I would love to travel around my home country and visit at least three countries from abroad. I would love to learn more about the cultures of the world throughout hands-on experiences. I hope I can integrate my experiences from traveling well in my future career.

These six realistic and crazy thoughts above are my New Year’s resolutions for 2020! I hope I can accomplish all (or say, most) of these this year! I pray for all of you to have a fantastic 2020!

Love,

Maria

P.S. Let’s watch Tokyo Olympics together in August this year!
