Shake it With HC’s FREE Zumba Class on April 4!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wake Forest chapter.

Her Campus Wake Forest is super pumped to host a free Zumba class on April 4 at 5pm on the Reynolda Patio located above the pit. We chatted with our instructor of the event, Aparna Sivakumar, sophomore student here at Wake!

1. Tell me about what’s going to happen at the Zumba event?

I can lead about an hour’s worth of Zumba, where participants can follow along and do dance routines to popular Spanish and English music.

2. What do you like about being a Zumba instructor?

I love to dance and instruct, but the best part of it is being able to see everyone having fun and enjoying themselves while doing something that is a lot of times outside of their comfort zone. It gives me more energy knowing that everyone’s having a good time.

3. Why did you get into teaching Zumba?

I’ve been dancing since as long as I can remember, and I always loved taking charge and teaching people new routines in Bollywood dance (which is what I’ve done since I was a child). I also really love Latin music and dance styles like salsa and merengue, so Zumba was the perfect combination of everything for me.

4. How did you get certified?

I got certified when I was 16. Zumba Fitness gives an all-day intensive training in which people can become certified and renew certifications as well. I’m looking forward to getting certified in Zumba Toning and possibly Aqua Zumba.

5. Do you teach anything else? If so, what?

Aside from Zumba, I don’t teach anything else here on campus, but I am one of the choreographers for Deacon Dhamaal (Wake’s Bollywood fusion dance team).

6. Where do you lead classes?

My classes are on the 4th floor of the Miller Center on Mondays at 3:45.

7. What are you most looking forward to about the Zumba event?

I’m most looking forward to a great turnout and being able to do a bunch of fun routines out in the open on the lower quad!

RSVP for our event on our Facebook event page!

Can’t wait to see all you collegiettes there!
