Blacksburg is beautiful in the fall—even nature is a Hokie when the trees turn orange and maroon! When you aren’t tailgating or at a football game, there are still endless things to do in Blacksburg when the weather is nice. However, during spring semester, it can be a little more difficult to have fun when you are trying not to catch hypothermia while crossing campus. Here are a few ideas for having some fun this winter, while not breaking your budget!

1. The Cascades

The only thing more beautiful than the Cascades during the summer, is the Cascades during the winter! Find some friends willing to brave the cold to go hike up to these gorgeous falls when they are frozen and there is a little snow on the ground. The only money you need is the $3 parking fee and the gas money to get there. Don’t forget to dress warmly!

2. Frank’s CineBowl & Grille

Whether you are in the mood to see a movie or go bowling with your friends, Frank’s offers some fun away from the cold! Monday nights are “College Nights” with $1 bowling and shoes, and 50% some appetizers when you show your college ID after 8pm. On Tuesdays, they offer $6 movies and $2.50 medium popcorns all day! Wednesday is “Ladies Night” where women are offered 2 free bowling games, including shoes, after 8pm for your girls’ night out!

3. Sycamore Deli

Get out your dancing shoes and grab your friends to go show off your moves at Sycamore Deli’s “Salsa Night” every Wednesday! It is free if you are over 21 years old, but only a $2 cover if you are 18-20 so it still won’t break the bank! Don’t fret if you don’t know how to Salsa dance, the instructors will guide you! Beginner lessons start at 9pm.

Don’t let the cold weather stop you from having fun this semester! Take a break from binge watching Friends on Netflix for the 7th time and get out there!

Just a funky lil girl trying to put my thoughts into relatable words!!! I've had the dream of being Anne Hathaway's character in Devil Wears Prada since I was like three. Maybe without being someone's bitch, but you know, everyone has to start somewhere.
