Valentine’s day is tomorrow so either your situationship has not taken the hint or you’re just riding single this year, that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy your day.

Here’s some Do’s and Don’ts to remember so February 14th can be a memorable one!

DON’T let Valentine’s Day define you!

While, yes, it’s the day of love, there are still many ways to enjoy it without a significant other.

For eighteen years of my life, I did not have one guy ask me to be his valentine or get any secret admirers, though it’s a dream. This day can be shared with those you love, like a close friend or family member. Don’t let the definition of love only be subjected to romance. Take the time to appreciate the ones you love rather than eternally shriveling up inside when you see a couple. As a D1 hater it can be quite hard but trust me, I’ve spent enough years doing it to know it’s not a great idea

DO try new activities!

Even if all your friends are busy on Valentine’s Day, it’s a perfect opportunity to take time for yourself. From a spa day to a movie date for yourself, there are many ways to spend the day getting pampered. This is just a short list!

Spa night! Grab some face masks, cut some cucumbers, and relax.

Movie night! Check some showtimes and get popcorn– you don’t even need to share it.

Treat yourself! Chocolate heals the soul, and from the wise words of Miley Cyrus, you can indeed buy yourself flowers.

Bake some goodies! The day before Valentine’s Day I always buy candy and hand it out. Even to people I don’t talk to often but still care about. This year I am baking sugar cookies and decorating them with pink sprinkles!

Buy yourself something new! My birthday is just a few days before Valentine’s Day, so I always go on a little shopping spree. It’s little because I work a minimum wage job, but it always makes me happy purchasing new tops or dresses.

Finally, DON’T forget that it’s okay to be alone!!!

Yes, being single may feel like the end of the world, but there are many ways to make this day for you. I used to be so miserable scrolling through social media and seeing people be happy with partners. It made me understandably bitter; I feel like that is a coping mechanism that some of my readers may share.

I push you to create memories that will spark smiles in the future; think of it like a long-term investment. Stay at home eating ice cream or spend time at Target buying the last discount chocolate. They always have good deals after the holidays, made my bank account happy as well as my soul. Most importantly make sure you love yourself. Treat yourself with respect and patience. You deserve the world and the right to enjoy this day more than anyone else.
