Finals week is among us and so is the stress of passing our classes. Everyone feels like they have the weight of the world on their shoulders right now, so I have prepared a list of self-care ideas that will hopefully help you get through these next few weeks.

Take a little nap

My first recommendation is to take a nap. Napping is a good way to take a break from everything and it’s good for the soul. It allows you to stop what you’re doing and get the rest you need. The only thing you have to remember when taking a nap is don’t sleep for too long. You don’t want to oversleep or sleep the day away.

Have a spa day

One of my favorite things to do for self-care is having a spa day. Spa days can be as cheap or as expensive as you want it to be, it all depends on what you are willing to do. My favorite thing to do for a spa day is to use a face mask. Face masks are inexpensive and they are fun to do, especially with friends. All you have to do is go to the store, pick out a face mask and go home and do it. This is something you can do by yourself or with a group of friends.

Journal throughout the week

Journaling is a great way to get all your feelings out. It is an inexpensive way to help take care of yourself; you can do it on pen and paper or virtually. Journaling will allow you to get any feelings or ideas you have out of your mind so you can try to focus on something else. I know the holidays can add stress to everyone’s lives so maybe journaling can help take care of that.

Go for a walk

Exercise is a great way to relieve stress but I know not everyone likes to work out. I recommend just taking a walk either around your neighborhood, around campus or just anywhere you feel comfortable. Walking is a good way to clear your mind and it even allows you to exercise without overdoing it.

Detox from technology and social media

I know, getting rid of technology and social media for a little bit may be hard but it is really good to get away from it for a little bit. Social media is nice but it can add to the stress and anxiety of finals week. I recommend taking a break from all social media for a few hours to just focus on yourself for a little bit. I know it may be asking a lot but I promise it will be worth it.

I hope that these ideas can help you through these next few weeks. I wish you the best of luck on your finals!

Hi, my name is Katie and I'm a senior majoring in psychology. I love being around my friends and family, chasing sunsets, listening to music, and driving around. I am so happy to be a part of the Her Campus writing team because I feel like I have found a place where my voice gets heard. Her Campus allows me to tell my stories without being interrupted and it gives me a place to be my true self.
