Holiday Season Countdown: The 5 Best Things About the Holidays

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Virginia Tech chapter.

If you haven’t had a countdown until Christmas going since November 1st, you must be a total Grinch. The holidays are approaching and everyone is gearing up for the festivities and joy! There are so many things to love about the holidays, but I think we can all agree on the following list of what the holidays really mean.

1. Food

Thanksgiving and Christmas means food, and a lot of it. Two large meals in the span of 30 days? Count me in! I have been preparing all year for these grand feasts and will delightfully take part in the dessert afterwards.

2. Family

After spending endless weeks at college and only communicating with your parents via text messaging, it’s nice to come home and hug everyone again! I know for myself, and a lot of people, the holidays means driving hours to your Grandma’s house and hanging out with your long-lost cousins. It’s a great way to spend time with extended family that you normally don’t get to see.

3. Christmas Decorations

My favorite holiday activity is putting up the Christmas Tree with my mom! We love to visit Pier One and Target for the newest decor we can put around the house. It’s fascinating, even at 20 years old to see all of the homes in the neighborhood lit up by Christmas lights.

4. Movies Being on Christmas break means having all of the time in the world to binge watch your favorite Christmas movies. It is the perfect time to stay in your pj’s all day and drink hot chocolate. Make sure to get your Christmas watch-list on Netflix ready now! Don’t forget to watch the classics like Home Alone and Elf.

5. Baking

If baking isn’t one of your household traditions during the holidays then you need to reevaluate some of your past Christmas decisions. I love baking cookies and pies with my whole family. It is a nice activity to all do together and have some delicious treats at the end to share. Also, if you’re tight on cash like all of us other college kids, you can send them as a gift to your other family members. They will love it and hopefully won’t tell you that they are disgusting.

Hey I'm Celia! I am a Marketing Management major here at Virginia Tech. There are three things that I love most in this world and they are (in this order) dogs, DUNKIN and Chipotle. If I'm not coming up with new content for my next story you can catch drawing, reading or binging a new series on Netflix. To conclude this little bio, Michael Scott once said, "The only time I set the bar low is for limbo." I hope you guys enjoy reading!

Just a funky lil girl trying to put my thoughts into relatable words!!! I've had the dream of being Anne Hathaway's character in Devil Wears Prada since I was like three. Maybe without being someone's bitch, but you know, everyone has to start somewhere.
