Game Day Essentials Every VT Girl Should Have

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Virginia Tech chapter.

Virginia Tech’s football season has just begun and that means pregames, tailgates, spirited outfits and cheering on the Hokies! To make sure that your game day goes smoothly, here are some essentials I think everyone should have.

A cute outfit

Have fun with what you wear and just remember to be spirited! A classic outfit, that I personally love, is a jersey with jean shorts and converse sneakers. It’s both cute for pictures and functional for when you’re jumping to Enter Sandman. If you need some trendy looks, make sure to check out our 9 Cute Game Day Outfit Ideas article for some inspiration.

Sunglasses

Sunglasses will be a necessity during those sunny day games. Try to find inexpensive ones that look good on your face. Trust me, don’t wear your expensive sunglasses because you don’t want to be devastated when you lose or break them, which happens more often than you’d think.

Closed toe shoes

Chances are you’ll be doing a lot of walking to and from the game, so wear comfortable shoes. If you are going to Center Street, wear inexpensive closed toe shoes because it can get really muddy there from the amount of people.

Keys

You’ll want to put as many keys as you can on your keyring because you definitely don’t want to be left out when the crowd rambunctiously shakes them for a notorious “key play”.

Portable charger

There’s nothing worse than a dead phone when you need to contact someone or want to take a picture, so bring a portable charger to make sure that doesn’t happen! Just make sure that it’s a small one that you can fit into your pocket or clutch.

Sunscreen

For those mid-day games when you’re cheering on the Hokies in direct sun for hours, wear sunscreen. Make sure to bring it to protect your skin from premature aging and from major sunburn, especially if you’re sitting in the East and North stands because there is no shade to hide under. School spirit bonus if you use the special VT sunscreen!

Disposable water bottle

While you can’t bring the water bottle into Lane Stadium, it’s a good idea to have it to stay hydrated before the game. Drinking water is super important since it will prevent you from getting dehydrated and of course, hangovers.

Clear clutch or purse

Virginia Tech has a new policy that prohibits bags of a certain size into the stadium, so save yourself the trouble of using Ziploc bags and buy a clear bag to hold all of your stuff. Read more about the policy here.

Hokie Passport

This one is self-explanatory, but guard your hokie passport with your life because you’ll need it to get into the game, catch the bus and get back into your dorm room. A new one will cost you $20, and a lot of stress, so make sure to not lose it!
