Even though it feels like any other day, the first of the month is a chance to start fresh. Whether last month went exactly how you planned or not, today is the perfect time to reset, reflect and prepare for what’s ahead. If you don’t know where to start, here is a guide to the perfect monthly reset.
- Start your month off with a clean space
-
It is really important to feel organized. And I’m not just talking about organizing your room; I mean everything. Make sure you know exactly what the month has in store for you. Write down your assignments, go through your emails and texts, and just make sure you have things in order. If this sounds overwhelming, start by cleaning and organizing your physical space, and then go from there.
- Evaluate last month—what did and didn’t you like about it?
-
This goes hand in hand with starting off with a clean and organized space. If you can pinpoint places that felt right, you can continue implementing them in your life. Like I’ve been going on more walks since the weather has gotten warmer, and it adds such a peaceful component to my days. On the other hand, if you can pinpoint places you went wrong, it’s easier to strive for change. Which brings me to my next point…
- Set new goals for yourself
-
Whether this looks like elaborate lists or a Pinterest board mainly used for vibes, it is so important to envision the month ahead of you. You don’t have to start off big, gradually implement things into your routine and then get bigger. Like if you want to read more, pick a book and tell yourself you’re going to read for 10 minutes a day, then 15, then 20, until it feels natural. Maybe this looks like setting up an expense budget or hanging out with your friends more. No matter what, try to be consistent. If you can find a friend to help hold you accountable, this could be really beneficial.
- Make sure you’re stocked up on everything you need
-
From food to beauty products, start the month off with everything you need. Yes, you’ll probably need to buy more groceries in a week, but how you start off will set the tone for the entire month.
- Choose one thing you’ve been wanting to do for a while and do it!
-
This is the most important suggestion I have for you today. We do not give ourselves enough time to do stuff that we actually like. With school, jobs and clubs, life can feel busy. Find something that adds a little fun to it. Try to pick something creative, too. Finally learn how to crochet, buy a sketchbook even if you suck at art, start writing horrible poetry—just do something that can be yours and yours alone.
You really don’t have to wait until the first of the month to implement any of these, but the first of the month is the perfect excuse for a reset.
