On Nov. 1, 2022, Taylor Swift announced her “Eras Tour” on Instagram. The United States leg of the tour is set to begin on March 18, 2023 in Arizona and end on Aug. 5, 2023 in Los Angeles. On Nov. 4, Swift announced eight additional dates to the tour. There is no established setlist for each show, but the expectation is that Swift plans to incorporate songs from all ten of her albums into the show.

The real question is, which era are you dressing up in for tour? This article explores the different eras of Taylor Swift to make the answer easy for you.

“Taylor Swift”

“Taylor Swift” was the first album released by Taylor Swift on Oct. 24, 2006. This album includes Swift’s love for country music and her personal, teenage experiences embedded in every song.

“Taylor Swift” is an album that is fun, upbeat and perfect for those who have country as their favorite music genre. “Taylor Swift” is for fans who love summer, prefer the countryside over the city, and whose teenage years were filled with angst and emotion.

A “Taylor Swift” inspired tour outfit would include cowboy boots, a flowy, summer dress and a cowboy hat; full-on country.

“Fearless”

Taylor Swift’s second album “Fearless” was released on March 9, 2009. Her second album still includes the country themes found in the first album but you can feel Swift start her slow transition to pop in this album.

“Fearless” is for the fans who are hopeless romantics, whose favorite season is summer, and who grow excited when it rains. Since “Fearless” still has those country vibes attached to it, cowboy boots would be a must for a “Fearless” inspired tour outfit. I can also see white dresses, flowy skirts and corset tops with a “Fearless” outfit.

In addition, the music videos Taylor Swift put out during this era have iconic outfits that are easy to recreate.

“Speak Now”

“Speak Now” is Taylor Swift’s third album and was released on Oct. 25, 2010. This album was the first one where Swift did not incorporate the huge country music influences found in her first two albums.

“Speak Now” is for the fans whose favorite color is purple, who had the most angsty and emotional-ridden teenage phases, the self-sabotagers and the ones who love romcoms, especially ones with a big grovel scene from the lead guy.

A “Speak Now” tour outfit would consist of shades of purple. I can also see gold accents being incorporated into the outfit as well.

“Red”

“Red” was released on Oct. 22, 2012. “Red” further exemplifies Swift’s transition from country to pop. I find that this album proves how well Taylor Swift can do in the pop genre, which is further proven by the re-recording of the album.

“Red” is for the girls whose favorite season is fall, whose favorite drink is hot chocolate no matter what season they’re in, and whose favorite show is “Gilmore Girls.” “Red” is for girls who love driving on the highway and whose favorite color is dark red.

A “Red” tour outfit would not be complete without a red lipstick moment. I can see mini skirts, specifically black or denim, being incorporated into a “Red” inspired outfit.

“1989”

“1989” is Taylor Swift’s fifth album and was released on Oct. 27, 2014. “1989” symbolized Taylor Swift’s transition into pop and served as her first pure pop album. This album is a favorite of mine and I am excited to see the outfits that come out on tour in the inspiration of this album. I can picture the bright, bejeweled outfits already.

“1989” is for the girls whose favorite city is New York, whose favorite color is gold or silver and who love the “Midnights” album.

“Reputation”

“Reputation” serves as Taylor Swift’s sixth album after a long hiatus from the Kanye and Kim Kardashian snake scandal. “Reputation” still has those pop influences that were dominant in the previous album and serves as Swift’s comeback after disappearing from the Internet.

“Reputation” is for the fans who believe in the motto “private but not secret,” secret hopeless romantics, and avid lovers of pop. A “Reputation” inspired outfit would have to be all black, of course.

“Lover”

“Lover” was released on Aug. 23, 2019. “Lover” is the complete opposite of “Reputation” as the overarching theme in the entire album is love, specifically different forms of love. I find that “Lover” is an album to be treated as a healing stage.

“Lover” is for girls who love pastels, are avid rom-com watchers, book lovers and hopeless romantics. If you’re creating a “Lover” inspired outfit, it better look like Valentine’s Day threw up on you.

“folklore”

“folklore” was Swift’s eighth album, released on July 24, 2020. “folklore” was the album that brought a lot of new listeners to Swift’s music. It is her first album in the alternative genre, making it attract hundreds of listeners.

“folklore” is for the older sisters, the ones whose favorite season is fall, the ones who would rather live in an isolated cottage off in the woods, and whose favorite time of day is night. If you have the “folklore” cardigan, then it is a must to include when creating a tour outfit inspired by the album.

“evermore”

“evermore” was released after “folklore” and serves as the sister album. I find that “evermore” is often cast aside or ignored when discussing Swift’s other albums. It is the most underrated of her albums.

“evermore” is for the younger sisters, the winter lovers, and the “Jo March” of the family. An “evermore” inspired outfit would include lots of oranges, greens and warm tones.

“Midnights”

Finally, “Midnights” serves as the tenth album of Taylor Swift, which was released on Oct. 21, 2022. When listening to “Midnights,” it felt like the grown-up version of “1989.” Or, if “Reputation” and “1989” had a baby.

“Midnights” is for those that have “1989” as their top three, find themselves going out almost every weekend and seem to take up every room they walk into. I can see a lot of “Midnights” outfits incorporating dark blues, gems, sparkles and shimmery accents.
