The Possibility of a New Frank Ocean Album

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at VCU chapter.

Every time I hear about Frank Ocean, I internally (sometimes externally) shriek with utter joy. The R&B artist is recognized for his Grammy-winning album, “Channel Orange (2012), and of course his most recent project “Blonde (2016). He’s widely respected within the music industry as an artist, singer and writer. In the past, Ocean has written songs for huge household names, including Justin Bieber and Beyoncé. He basically went from a profound ghost-writer, to a profound artist himself. His talents have lead him to gain not only appreciation from others within his field, but from millions of fans that have adored his alternative sound.

Ocean is known for being more private with his career. You can try looking for Ocean on Instagram and Twitter all you want, but the artist deleted his accounts back in 2013. The reason you may ask? Well, according to his Tumblr, it was his “intuition.” Being in such a social media dominated world, one might think of his internet anonymity as a risky move. Along with the lack of social media exposure, Ocean had several teasers for the potential release of “Blonde,” a game of cat and mouse that caused many of his fans to lose faith that Blonde would ever be released.

Despite the slight stumble in faith for some fans, the “Thinkin’ Bout You” singer delivered the greatly-awaited project and, not surprisingly, it was critically acclaimed by numerous album-rating sites.

Now we may be dealing with the same situation once again. According to Ocean’s Tumblr page, the artist may have already created another album once again. He states:

He turned 30 on Oct. 28, 2017.

This is definitely some exciting news. After a trail of singles released earlier this year, I have no doubt that anything else he puts out will be just as impressive. However, I think it’s important that as fans we don’t get our hopes up, and we understand that artists have their right as creative individuals in this industry to release music when they believe the time is right. Additionally, if Ocean ends up never releasing new music (as devastating and apocalyptic as that sounds), we have to respect that as well.

But please release it. For the love of mankind.
