A Packing List For Her Conference

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at VCU chapter.

Her Conference is a one day conference hosted by Her Campus, where collegiettes from across the country meet to network with each other and learn from some of the top industry professionals. Whether you’re attending the June 1 date in Los Angeles or the June 22 date in New York City, you’ll want to make sure you pack all the essentials.

Clothes:

Her Conference is a professional conference so keep things appropriate, but don’t be afraid to show your personal style! Whether you prefer dresses and heels or you lean more towards pants and flats, make sure to wear what you feel comfortable in; just be sure to leave the jeans at home! Los Angeles and New York will both be hot, so make sure to dress comfortably for the weather. Whatever your style, my biggest tip is to wear layers. You never know whether your conference hall is going to be hot or cold, so make sure to throw a cardigan, blazer or wrap in your suitcase. If you’re planning to wear heels, make sure to bring some backup flats for later in the day. I know I’ll be catching the subway to the New York date, and I definitely won’t want to navigate New York sidewalks in my cutest (most uncomfortable) heels.

Technology:

For this conference, most of what you’ll be doing is interacting with other collegiettes, networking, listening and learning from keynote speakers. With that said, I’d recommend going light on the technology. There will be tons of opportunities for cute photos, so definitely grab your phone and a portable charger, but you can leave your laptop at home for this one. If you want to take notes, I’d personally go for a good old fashioned notebook and pen, but if you MUST use technology, a tablet will be your best bet to keep your purse light. Just remember that your battery might die and you might not be able to find an outlet nearby. Honestly, I’d just stick with your phone, a charger, a portable charger, a notebook and pens. And obviously if you’re a photographer bring your camera, but try to decide on one lens that will be best for the conference. You won’t want to lug around a huge camera bag with all of your equipment.

Extras:

Of course, you’ll want to grab your usual toiletries, but here are a few things you might forget to grab. This is an all-day conference, which means you’ll be eating a couple of times throughout the day. Throw a tide to go pen in your bag to help take care of any snacking mishaps! You’ll also want to make sure that you bring a purse big enough to carry all your conference essentials. While your Kate Spade clutch may be your cutest purse, a larger leather tote or something similar may be a better option for your extra flats, your notebook and the sweet free stuff you’ll get at the conference. Don’t forget your accessories! When packing, don’t forget to plan your jewelry ahead of time too. Grab a statement necklace or some killer earrings to take your outfit to the next level. Finally, if you’re your very own #GirlBoss, make sure to bring your business cards! There will be a ton of time to meet with other collegiettes and people in your industry, so take advantage of this networking opportunity by passing out your business cards to people you’d like to connect with!

Hopefully, this article will help you figure out what kinds of clothes to pack for Her Conference and remember those extras you might forget about. You can get your Her Conference LA tickets here and your Her Conference NYC tickets here. Happy networking!
