How to Conquer Time Management

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at VCU chapter.

Busy bee, busy bee, busy bee!

Life even without school seems to already be stressful as it is, then add all your classes and homework on top? There are so many things you have to get done and not enough hours in the day to do everything. How about adding hours to the day so I can have time to relax? Yes, PLEASE!

Since that is not possible, here are some helpful tricks I personally have used (or attempted to use) as well as some other ways people try to tackle time management!

Let’s start with the difficult one, school work. Keeping a calendar to keep track of when big assignments are due and when quizzes and exams are scheduled, can keep you in the safe zone for the most part as well as keeping reminders on your phone. For projects, papers and exams, you can put a reminder on your phone a week or however long it usually takes you to do an assignment or study at a relaxed pace. Setting a part of specific days can really help you stay on track such as blocking out Monday nights for work that you need to do in advance.

Now, a lot of students also have part-time and even full-time jobs. Tackling both school and work takes a lot of pre-planning as well as advance work. Not all professors or managers are going to stick to their schedule and a lot of them throw things at you that you were not informed of till the last minute. Doing school work in advance can save your precious head from worrying! Having study groups can also force you to do school work so when you are at work you’re not just worrying about school the whole time.

Not only should you try to balance your school work, with your work schedule, but you also need time for yourself! Spending time with friends, even if you’re just doing homework them is a healthy way to spend your time. Having a social life is important because it keeps you mentally checked as well as giving you something fun to look forward to! Joining clubs and different organizations can make your life even more hectic, but it is also be a great way to socialize and connect with new people.

Managing your school work, job and social life seems impossible sometimes, but planning ahead can really make a difference. Doing work with friends as well as knowing your limits on work can keep you from overstressing and having a mental breakdown. No one wants to be so stressed they ignore certain needs and managing your time by planning ahead can really help a student out.
