This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at VCU chapter.
Age: 20 (21 in February)

Year: Halfway through Junior year

Major: Criminal Justice and Psychology

Hometown: Virginia Beach

Organizations involved in/positions:
Alpha Phi Omega, former Secretary and current Pledgemaster
Student United Way, former Vice President and current President
Alpha Phi Sigma (Criminal Justice Honor Society), just a member

Tell me a little bit about Alpha Phi Omega, what’s something the average VCU student should know about this (co-ed) fraternity?

It is one of the most inclusive groups I’ve ever seen, made up of friendly people that are all happy to do service for the community and helping each
other become better leaders.

How long have you been in Alpha Phi Omega?

I pledged Spring 2014.

What are your plans as this year’s pledgemaster? What’s got you excited?

I plan helping every pledge see how wonderful Alpha Phi Omega is, and showing them that it can change their lives as much as it has changed mine. I’m excited to see them become dedicated Brothers with readiness to become better leaders and friends, and how to serve their community.

What is your favorite type of charity work?

I love working with animals the most. We like to volunteer at a rescue kennel called BARK, and I enjoy walking the dogs and cleaning their cages.

What keeps you inspired in your work?
I
think that I have become a better person since I joined Alpha Phi Omega, and continuing to grow is what keeps me inspired.

Quote to live by?

“Keep Moving Forward” by Walt Disney

What is your dream job?

I want to work in the Criminal Justice system and corrections administration to help create widespread and effective re-entry programs that work on reversing the effects of institutionalization and try to reduce the rates of recidivism, helping convicted criminals by giving them resources to be able to get on their feet after serving their time in a
Penitentiary.

Why did you choose VCU?

I chose VCU because I’ve always wanted to live in a city, it’s the perfect distance away from home, and it has a large arts scene. So far, it’s been everything I could have ever asked for.

What do you do in your free time?

During my summer, I use my free time to work at the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office back home, and I like to watch Netflix and play video games during the rest of my free time.
