A Conversation With the Procrastinator in Me

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at VCU chapter.

Tough conversations concerning your relationship with someone near and dear are never pleasant. I decided to sit down with the Procrastinator in me and give it to her straight – our relationship had to come to an end.

J: P, we need to talk. Lately all we have been doing is watching Netflix.

P: What’s wrong with that?

J: Well, I need and want to get my homework done. You haven’t been a good influence for me. I agree to watch only one episode of The Office, but you insist we keep watching. I give in because if I don’t, you scream like crazy.

P:

J: It’s hard for me to say this, but we have to stop watching Netflix. I have to read my textbooks, do my homework and get a workout in. You are making my life really difficult. You have caused so many breakouts and bad under eye circles. I find myself panicking and trying to decide which is more important: my sleep or my grades in class.

P:

J: You can argue all you want but my decision is made. I am not going to let you control me. I am in control now and like Red once said:

From now on, I decide when we watch Netflix, how many episodes we watch and if you can’t agree, I’m afraid we can’t be friends. I trusted you and all you did was leave me with a pile of homework. You have to put in a little effort too. You’re going to have to help with my assignments.

P:

J: I don’t care if you don’t want to help or if you think my accounting textbooks are boring; if this relationship is going to continue, you’re going to have to help.

Let’s just say that for a while, I was staying on track; I was reading my textbook, doing my homework until I decided to reward myself. Procrastination convinced me to keep watching the Spanish soap opera I’m hooked on.
