Many organizations across college campuses participate in what is known as the Big/ Little program where upperclassmen ‘adopt’ underclassmen or transfer students. These programs create bonds and help foster familial vibes while away at college. Here are the 10 best things about being a big:

1. It’s an opportunity to mentor someone to positively influence someone’s life.

You can help one person by preventing them from making the same mistakes you did or help them out and be there for your Little if they do.

2. You have someone to bond with who shares your interests.

No lie, it was weird meeting people who literally had everything in common with me, but having someone who you share so much in common with makes life so much more enjoyable! You have someone you can literally say anything to and you know they won’t judge you.

3. You always have an excuse to go get food.

I mean, who doesn’t hit up their Little when they’re hungry?!

4. Not to mention the fun if your Little gets a Little- Grandlittle!

Nothing beats family!

5. Having a Little means having someone who is always excited to see you.

Ever since they found you at Reveal, they ALWAYS get excited and their eyes always light up when they see you. No matter what kind of day you’re having, seeing your Little can always make it instantly better.

6. You have someone who’s willing to try all those new restaurants or those adventure spots you’ve always wanted to try.

There is so much to explore, especially in Richmond! Having a Little means getting to go on every adventure you’ve always wanted to go on, except now with a friend to go with you!

7. There’s something really fun and exciting about having someone to spoil.

Now I’m not saying that every Big has to spoil their Little, but small things like a coffee one day are always super appreciated. This is especially true before Reveal when your Little doesn’t even know who you are yet!

8. Having a Little makes you a better person.

There’s something unique about a Big/ Little bond. Even though you’re the ‘Big,’ you’re both equally there for each other and rooting for each other with unconditional support.

9. You gain a new best friend with the potential of being a lifelong friend.

Love you long time, Littles.
