For a long time, many fashion retailers have dismissed that the average American woman is a size 16 by only carrying limited sizes, or, better yet, selling lackluster styles for their plus-size consumers. However, in recent years, the fashion industry has made some necessary changes in respect to what they had to offer to the plus-size community. Of course there will always be two of the bigger names in plus-size clothing, Torrid and Lane Bryant, but here is a list of a few of the lesser known plus-size body positivity brands that you should check out.

1. Eloquii

Launched in 2011, Eloquii is the little sister of the brand The Limited. Shortly after launching the brand, however, The Limited decided to discontinue the brand. Thankfully, the lovely people that put so much work into starting Eloquii decided to dig their heels in and keep Eloquii open for business. Eloquii is primarily an online boutique that offers women’s clothes ranging in sizes 14 to 28. They sell everything from shoes to party dresses, following along with current trends. Last year they launched their first retail store in Arlington, Va, they have since launched two more franchises in Chicago, IL, and Columbus, OH.

2. Premme

Premme was founded on the basis that “clothing should be about expressing your personality and having fun, not feeling limited by society’s current fashion rules.” It was founded by two of the plus-size clothing industry leaders, Gabi Gregg and Nicolette Mason. The indie fashion brand has some of the most playful size-inclusive clothes in the industry today. The brand releases new merchandise every month, and all of the items are affordable and made of amazing quality.

3. Plus BKLYN

In 2017, Ashley Krase decided she was fed up with the lack of small plus-size clothing retailers available to consumers in New York City so she opened Plus BKLYN. Currently located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, the store offers plus-size women the shopping experience that they have been lacking. This year, so far, their biggest success was that they started offering plus-size vintage items which have been so hard to come by for those looking for that market specifically.

4. Day/Won

Day/Won was launched by plus-size model Candice Huffine and aimed to provide a trendy size-inclusive activewear line. Currently, Day/Won is the only activewear line to offer an entire range of clothes between sizes 0 and 32. Candice Huffine truly is an inspiring woman who has continued to shatter people’s views on the plus-size world as she runs marathons, models, and has her own clothing line. You go, girl!

As 2018 progresses it will be interesting to see how each of these brands fair with more and more brands moving to incorporate larger sizes into their image. As far as it goes right now though, these are some of the best of the best as far as their image of women and body-positivity.
