1. She knows the true importance of a good waffle.

And breakfast foods in general.

2. She always tries to look on the bright side of things.

Even on her worst day, something about it will make it her best day because she chooses to look at the bright side.

3. She recognized how important Dad Bod was before anyone else.

With her love for Joe Biden, she showed us all we can lust after older men and have it not be (THAT) weird.

4. She lets her friends know just how important they are to her.

With her creation of “Galentine’s Day,” she revolutionized how to treat our friends to show them how much we care.

5. She’s not afraid to ask for help.

She knows when she can handle things, and when she needs 12 hours of sleep and constant cans of whipped cream.

6. She was tired of not having a strong female role model, so she became one.

While she infiltrated the “Boy’s Club” of Pawnee’s local government, she showed us all we could become exemplary women if we sit our minds to it.

7. She’s played by Amy Poehler, founder of Amy’s Smart Girls (and beloved person everywhere).

How can you NOT love someone who started an organization to help “young people cultivate their authentic selves”?! Honestly.

8. She’s the queen of compliments.

With compliments ranging from “Ann, you beautiful spinster” to “Ann, you rainbow-infused space unicorn,” we could all take a page out of her book when it comes to complimenting our friends.

9. She never let a boy stand in the way of her dreams.

She broke up with her boyfriend when she realized she couldn’t date him and run for city council; a message that tells young girls to pursue their dreams before chasing any boy. You go, Leslie.

10.  She never gave up.

It didn’t matter if it was finishing a park or winning a city council seat–if Leslie Knope set her mind to it, she got it done.

Emily is a part-time coffee addict and a full-time English and Public Relations student at Virginia Commonwealth University. She enjoys all things punny, intersectional feminism, Chrissy Teigen's tweets and considers herself a bagel & schmear connoisseur. You can probably find her either listening to the Hamilton soundtrack or binge watching The Office for the thousandth time
