Natural Hair Care: 4 Healthy Styles To Try This Spring Break!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Valdosta chapter.

Let me guess, as Spring Break is approaching, you are beginning to realize the lack of ideas you possess of taming your mane for the upcoming festivities. A protective style is 10/10 recommended! However, the question of which style to choose will always be prevalent. Regardless of the style you choose, optimum results will remain a requirement. A tip to remember when installing a protective style is to provide your stylist with details or a model look to follow. Your stylist cannot read your mind, therefore, it is important that you communicate your ideas!

Fulani Braids

Fulani braids are the new trend! They can be styled in several ways and are accented by the various designs that can be created. Beads, cowry shells, and gold clips may be dispersed throughout the braids to give a more individualized look. Being that this style provides easy access to the scalp, your maintenance routines will carry on smoothly!

Goddess Locs

Another long-lasting style that allows for different looks to be expressed! Being that a faux loc is simply a piece of hair wrapped around a box braid or twist, you must be careful with the amount of weight you are carrying on single strands of hair. Apply to much weight to the roots of your hair strands may lead to breakage at the point of tension. Beads, cowry shells, and gold clips are used as decorative pieces for this protective style as well.

Box Braids

Box braids are a neat and long-lasting protective style! In general, this style does not take much upkeep at all. However, it is important you remember to not get braids too small, as this will cause thinning and breakage. When getting these braids, you must also make sure that they are not too tight. Braids that are too tight will eventually cause damage by ripping your hair from its roots. If you keep these tips in mind, your box braids will be your new best friend!

Havana Twists

Havana twists are also on the list of styles that do not require much upkeep. Being that the weight of this style is dependent on the amount of hair you use in each twist, you must be considerate of how much weight your hair strands can hold. Just as a heavy goddess loc will prove its point, a heavy twist will cause breakage at the point of tension as well!

No matter the style you choose, remember to continue taking care of your hair! Just because you are on break does not mean your hair is taking one as well!
