Spring is all about change. Changes in the weather and changes in your home. Spring is a great opportunity to not only tidy up your home but also add some fun new decorations. Decorating and cleaning your home can be a simple and fun thing to do. Here are a few ideas to kick start your spring off on the right foot!

My first tip to start your spring out on the right foot is to clean out your wardrobe. A simple thing to do is to take all of your winter clothes and pack them away. Make room in your closet for your spring wardrobe. While cleaning out all of your winter items take the initiative to reorganize your closet. I know my wardrobe throughout the year slowly starts to get more and more disorganized. My clothes become unfolded and others get lost under one another. Cleaning out my wardrobe not only lets me find clothing I thought I lost but it allows me to restore order to my dishevelled closet. Some things that I like to do when organizing my closet is organize my clothes on hangers in color order. It helps me pick out my wardrobe faster and it is visually appealing to the eye. Another simple trick to organizing your closet is adding dividers or baskets to your drawers in your wardrobe. They’re super inexpensive, especially for broke college students, and allow you to keep your wardrobe looking super organized.

My next tip for spring cleaning is to give your room a thorough wipe down. During the winter dust seems to accumulate everywhere and illnesses seem to fester. I like to wipe down shelving with something as simple as a wet washcloth or spraying down shelving with disinfectant spray.  Afterwards your room will smell nice, clean, and fresh. Some things that I like to do when I clean is open the windows and let some fresh air in. It helps move the overpowering smell of cleaning products out of the room. Something else I like to do to help freshen the smell of my room is to take something as simple as dryer sheets and put them on the back of my fan. It makes my room smell like fresh linen and it’s something simple and cheap to make your room smell nice.

Decorating, to me, is super fun and can help tie any room together. Spring is a fun way to bring out bright new colors to your room and make your room stand out when you have guests. One thing I like to do when spring rolls around is to embrace my inner gardener. Flowers and plants are something easy to help brighten your room. I love mixing flowers and plants together because flowers can add a little pop of color to your room. They’re super pretty to look at and don’t take up too much space. You don’t have to spend a lot of money on getting a few small plants or pots to add to your space. Plants and flowers are also a simple way that improves the air quality in your room! If you don’t have a green thumb and seem to kill every plant you touch, don’t despair! There are alternative options to real plants and flowers but still add a fresh touch of nature to your room. Most places sell artificial flowers and plants. You don’t have to worry about the pesky upkeep associated with live plants and flowers and can still get that spring look.

Another idea for decorating and freshening up your room for spring is adding some new wall decorations. Wall decorations are fun to look at and can add some pizazz to your room. Some simple things you can do are  some fun pictures you’ve taken and frame them to add onto your wall. It’s a fun way to have memories displayed and add visual appeal to your home. You can buy cheap frames from goodwill and update them with a fresh coat of paint. Or if you don’t want to do some diy-ing, Walmart is another great place to find picture frames at a reasonable price. Other things to hang on your wall include wall paintings, chalk boards, cork boards, or mirrors.

Spring is a great way to get motivated and add some fun to your home. Small things help freshen up your room and help you get a jump start on that dreaded spring cleaning. Get creative and let the wonders of spring inspire you!
