Allow me to introduce Matt Zvric! This Windsor native is a second year who is currently completing a double major in English and Digital Journalism. As a wanderlust soul, this guy knows exactly where he wants to go in the world. Read more on this week’s Campus Cutie!
What is it that makes you travel so much? Where was the first place you went?
My Aunt has travelled all over the world and would always bring back different currencies to give me. The first place I ever went was in grade seven, and it was to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia- for a tribal safari with my aunt. We saw six different tribes that are located around Addis Ababa. I guess that sparked the travel bug in me and I’ve been going to places ever since.
Do you plan on travelling for your career?
I’d like to travel for my career. The idea of being placed in Windsor for the rest of my life is not something that I would enjoy.
What would you like to do with your degree? What draws you to Digital Journalism?
After completing my degree, I’d like to go teach English as a second language abroad, preferably in Southeast Asia or the United Arab Emirates for a few years to make some money to pay off my debt. This may sound cliche, but I grew up reading the National Geographic magazine from a young age. I guess that inspired my decision to go into D.J at the University. In hopes that I could go to Washington D.C. after returning from teaching abroad to potentially get an internship with the world renowned magazine. That would be the final goal, to work for National Geographic.
What do you like to do for fun?
For fun, grabbing a beer with friends or going to John Max to watch a hockey game with some buddies. Most of the time I’m working to save up money for the next trip, or during school I’m slaving over the never-ending homework that prof’s assign. So from September to May there isn’t much that I do outside of school and work, unless I’m able to go on a trip somewhere.
