How to Celebrate Valentine’s Day on a Budget

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UWindsor chapter.

With Valentine’s Day quickly approaching, so is the societal pressure for an extravagant and expensive date. Being broke University students, finding cheap and romantic date ideas becomes really necessary. After all, you can’t put a price on love!

Here are a few ideas for those who want thoughtful dates without breaking the bank:

1.     Make Dinner Together

Instead of having the stress of making a reservation on time and spending money at a fancy restaurant, spend the evening relaxing with your significant other while cooking your favourite meal! Even if it’s as simple as boiling noodles and throwing together a salad, cooking together provides a chance to bond and see how well you can work together.

2.     Binge-Watch Rom Coms

No matter what time of year, I love spending the night binge-watching my favourite romantic comedy movies! Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to have your significant other join in as well. Grab a bottle of wine and a bag of popcorn and you are all ready to go!

3.     Make it a Game Night

Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to dust off the board games you have hidden in your closet and feel like a kid again. You could even invite other couples over and make it a competitive game night! May the best couple win!

4.     See a Movie

Valentine’s Day tends to bring all the new romantic comedies to theatres, which makes taking a visit to the theatre a perfect Valentine’s Day date! Even if romantic comedies aren’t for you, the movie theatre offers a variety of options to please everyone. Avoid overspending by sneaking in treats from home.

5.     Take a Visit to the Arcade

A little healthy competition never hurt anyone! This Valentine’s Day, make a stop at your local arcade and challenge your significant other to an arcade game-off. With so many games to choose from you’re sure to find a game you both enjoy.

7. Order a Heart-Shaped Pizza

A cheaper alternative to going out to dinner would be staying in and ordering a pizza! Many companies such as Naples and Armandos, even offer heart shaped pizzas in honour of Valentines day. For pizza lovers like me, this is a wonderful option that allows you to relax and eat in the comfort of your own home.

With so many affordable options to choose from you’re bound to impress your significant other with a thoughtful date without breaking the bank!
