Indoor Winter Activities for the Not-So-Outdoorsy Type

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UW Stout chapter.

Winter in Wisconsin has its pros and cons, so there is nothing wrong with wanting to spend time in the warmth if you aren’t the outdoorsy type. Winter sports are not for everyone, and that’s okay! Check out some ideas for spending your winter break indoors.

Canvas Painting

Snow can look pretty when it is on a canvas in the form of paint, not always the actual brown sloppy mess we see on the roads outside that makes driving miserable some days. There are so many places that host canvas painting events; I have heard great things about them and they look like so much fun! There’s nothing better than getting cozy while creating some beautiful artwork that you get to take home! Here are some local studios to check out:

Bake Cookies

There is no better way to warm up during the cold winter months than with a plate of fresh baked cookies! Grab a friend and jam out to some Christmas music in the process. If you are looking for some new recipes to try, check out 9 Cookie Recipes to Try This Holiday Season.

Go to the Gym

This may be the least appealing item on the list for some people, but it’s a great way to stay in shape during the cold months if you aren’t into winter sports!  It’s a great way to reduce stress while improving your overall health.  So don’t wait until the new year to get a gym membership; beat the rush and get a head start on your 2017 fitness goals.

Read a Book

There is something so relaxing about cuddling under a cozy blanket with a warm cup of tea and a good book! Winter break is a great time to catch up on some reading. If you are in the market for a fresh new book, check out The Best Books to Read Based on Your Major!

Whether you decide to spend your break braving the cold and hitting the slopes or trying one of these fun activities, Her Campus wishes you a happy holiday! See you in the spring!
