Campus Cutie: The Eyes Behind the Lens

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UW Lax chapter.

Name: Tyrell Luebker

Hometown: Woodman, Wisconsin

What year are you at UW-La Crosse: Sixth year senior

Major/Minor: Communication Broadcasting

Relationship status: I’m in a relationship.

What campus and/or community activities are you involved with?

Right now I’m doing intramural indoor football, outdoor soccer, and maybe kickball if we can get a team together. I’m also a former member of Students for Sustainability. Former not because I don’t like sustainability; I just ran out of time. I personally love sustainability.

What is your favorite thing about La Crosse?

I like the abundance of activities you can do within a short distance from campus, whether it’s going to the marsh just a walk away or driving a half an hour to go hiking at Perrot State Park or fishing in the Kickapoo. You can find a lot to do around this area. Its also not far from Madison, Chicago, or the cities if you want to go there. Its on the edge of the Wild Wild West- I’ve heard some people call it the West Coast, haha. It’s just a great location. There’s a cool downtown scene and there’s a free bus that takes you right down there.  Anything a student would need is near campus here.

Biggest pet peeve:

I don’t have a general pet peeve. Nothing really makes me that mad, but, I guess if I had to pick something, I would say conversational one-uppers. There’s always somebody who did something cooler than the story that just was told, and if it’s the same person doing it all the time then that starts to become annoying, but maybe that’s just their character flaw. So, it’s not really a pet peeve- it’s kind of just what makes them who they are.

Who’s your biggest role model and inspiration?

That’s a tough one, its hard to say. Probably my grandparents because they’re hard working and chill people. They taught me all the cool stuff I know how to do so they were my literal role models. Inspirations I would say Plato, Bob Dylan, Dr. Dre, Leonardo Davinci. I could go on, but that’s a good list.

Describe an ideal date:

I just wanna eat some food and have a good time. Many laughs, hopefully. It doesn’t really have to be anything special- it just has to be a good time. If everything went well for both people then I would say that’s pretty perfect. It couldn’t go any better at that point anyway.

Describe yourself in three words:

Oh man, that’s like impossible. PYT.

Favorite food:

I would probably say sushi or seafood in general, like things out of the ocean. Pretty much anyway you cook seafood- something that swam around in the water- it’s pretty delicious.

What kind of music do you enjoy listening to?

I like most types of music. I prefer music that has instruments as a main part of it. Well,  some electronic stuff is really cool like Daft Punk, Chromeo, Jungle, and Flume. I guess what I should say is when it comes to hardcore dubstep I’m not cool with it. When it comes to all those transformer sounds, like two transformers fighting, I’m not into it. I’m into the Doors, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Brahms, Mozart, Etta Jones. I also like Dave Matthews, Jack Johnson, Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin, The Eagles, Jefferson Airplane, Jefferson Starship, The Beatles- I have all their albums. It all has its place I guess, even country.

Favorite song to dance to at a party:

What would be my favorite song to dance to…my favorite dance move to do is the electric slide, but not to the actual electric slide song. You’re just shimmying and sliding and someone notices you’re doing the electric slide and it looks so out of place and funny. I would have to say my favorite song to dance to is “I Believe in a Thing Called Love” by The Darkness, but you have to be screaming it at the top of your lungs in a sh*tty bar. If you don’t know that song, well you should probably just know that song.

Where are you most likely to be found on a Friday night?

Well, unfortunately, my Friday nights consist of the library until 8 o’clock because I love books and books love me and books pay the rent. But after that, I’m probably out socializing, out on the town, trying to find some trouble. Gotta let loose that 9-5 life that I don’t have as a college student.

What are the qualities you find most attractive in a girl?

Not being an a**hole and a genuine smile. You have to smile and be happy because if you’re not happy already how are you going to be happy with someone else? You can’t. One of you or both of you is just going to continue to be unhappy. Also being an independent person, like not being afraid to be your own person and step out of your comfort zone. I guess I just like a confident woman, it sounds like. I’m also a sucker for a pretty girl in a band.

What is the first thing you notice about a girl?

The first thing I notice is how much makeup they’re wearing, which is kind of weird. If you can do with less makeup, that’s better to me.  Then I look at their eyes and think about what they look like- not necessarily the color, but like what kind of eyes they are. Are they nice eyes, wholesome? Are they dark eyes, darting around? Does it look like they have a soul in there? They say eyes are the window to the soul so I like to look deep.

What’s your go to pick up line?

Oh man, I don’t know if I have a pick up line. I’m not into trying to pick up girls. They usually pick up on me and eventually I notice like, “Oh, I didn’t even realize this was happening.” I’ve heard of a good one though. You see a group of girls and it looks like they’re dressed up for a night on the town, but they aren’t wearing any birthday tierras or anything.  You go up and say what’s the occasion? They obviously say nothing, but then you say well let’s make it an occasion and go get some shots.

What is your dream job?

A stay at home dad without the kids- so just like a stay at home person. I guess that’s not really a job, more like a hobby. Actually, my dream job would be a professional photographer: an artist making money for my talent, for what I have.

How does it feel to be featured as a campus cutie?

It feels kinda cool, kinda weird, but overall it was a positive experience.

Hello Folks! My name is Erin and I am senior at UWL majoring in English Education. Music and writing are my passions. I have been to over fifty concerts in my life and I have worn the same beat up old converse to every single one. My outlook on the world tends to be a little off the beaten path, but I hope you enjoy my perspective!
